Zero Tolerance For Yorkie with Allergies Works! Hey all, Thanks for your advice awhile ago when Corky was suffering from some massive itching and allergy problems. We've finally resolved them with your help and the help of our wonderful vet in Paris so I wanted to share with you our reason for success; ZERO TOLERANCE ON SNACKING! We discovered that even small amounts of white bread and crackers were causing him to itch since he has wheat and flour allergies. He now only gets his dog kibbles (ground up in the food processor since he has lost most of his teeth due to bad hygiene (sp?) habits of his previous "mom") mixed with chicken, turkey, rabbit or ostrich, vegetables and a small amount of rice. During the worst bouts of allergy we had to resort to cortisone shots and daily meds to give him some relief but once we had the itching under control, we were able to buy ourselves some time to get his diet under control. On the plus side, he no longer scratches himself raw, he no longer has breathing problems and coughing, he no longer begs at the dinner table or in restaurants because he is no longer expecting handouts. At restaurants he curls up in his little bag and goes to sleep. His coat has grown long and luxurious. Good luck to all of you yorky moms and dads out there with allergy problems. Just don't give up, I know how stressful and worrisome it can be but you'll find the solution eventually. Thanks again YT. |
Congratulations! I hope he continues to enjoy good health! |
This is SOOOOOOOOO true. Thanks for sharing your experience with this. My baby, Hobbs, has the worst dandruffy skin. I have him on this best dog food possible that contains none of the "problem" ingredients normally associated with allergies. I asked my vet about it and he said his dandruff is a result of the treats and table scraps I feed him that DO contain the problem ingredients. Since I have him on some good quality treats containing no problem ingredients and since I've stopped feeding him table scraps, he is much happier and healthier.   |
