Treat brands? Hey Everyone, I need your expertise in treats and food for a yorkie of about 9 weeks. What type of treats should he be given and what type of treats should I avoid? I am looking forward to hearing from you all! Love, Isil |
I like some of the vendors treats on here. Chattiesmom makes yorkie yummies and Bren (cafemax) makes treats in a variety of flavors. As far as store bought ones Mine like pupcorn and Puporoni, and yoqurt drops. You can also give carrot sticks or cherios. Mine love honey nut cherios. A good thing to get them to chew on are bullysticks. |

i swear you are the best! you are always very knowledgable and understanding and give the best of tips! Keep them coming, I am learning so much from you! love, Isil |
It is a rule-of-thumb in dog foods to stear clear of foods that contain corn, gleuton (wheat, rye, barley), soy, beef, and milk. I follow the same guidelines when I'm chosing treats for my crew, as well. I like Solid Gold Lamb or Chicken Jerky and Innova Evo grainless treats. However, the Innova Evo treats may be too rich for a puppy's tummy. The Solid Gold Jerky bc these treats are soft and easy for a small puppy to chew. ETA: fresh fruits and veggies are always great choices, too, as well as pieces of cut-up hotdogs. |
Mine love the beggin strips and the sargent's burger biscuits. They also like some beef jerky stuff from walmart, can't remember the name of it. I like to give it to them the most because it doesnt' have corn or wheat in it. My big dog will eat just about anything, but Summerlin is kind of picky.... A lot of times she will take a treat from me, take a teensy bite off of it and leave it there. I end up giving it to one of the other dogs  |
Ionly feed bizkit cherrios and green beans for treats he loves them and are alot heathier than the store bought treats. |
Yorkie Yummies are great! You need to give them a try. Jazzy loves them! |
I give mine Canz Real Meat treats. They're all natural with no fillers/preservatives. My Yorkies love them. I especially like using them for training because they're so easy to tear up into itty-bitty pieces so you can get a lot of training done without the kids getting full. Here's their store web site: http://shopping.netsuite.com/countrypet. They have free shipping. |
Well my picky furbabies prefer a beef jerky treat from walmart... After trying more expensive things that just made them throw up the cheepies are the ones that worked... But in their Kong toys they like cheerios and cap it off with peanut butter... and they especially love Bully Sticks... Bentley will chew on one all day, I guess he thinks it won't be there the next day... I buy those off ebay, pretty cheap. |
You got some great tips, but I'd steer clear of hot dogs unless you're willing to take a chance on your baby getting pancreaitis. These little ones cannot handle all the fat and sodium that is in hot dogs. Mine get the freeze dried liver treats, chicken jerky tenders (from walmart), cheerios, apple bits, and baby carrots. |
Can't go wrong with yogurt drops, yorkie yummies, Cafe Max, Chicken Breast Jerkey, and Grayson loves to chew on Bully Sticks Merricks don't have a odor or if you order Pixie Sticks from Katheryn V (Beyond Spoiled) they have no odor either! Good luck finding treats for your baby! |
thanks all for your support and great suggestions! Can doggies eat cat food/cat treats also? My Leo, a Mainecoon mix, will be welcoming Princeton as a big older brother and he has cat food out. Would it affect the Yorkie if he takes a bite or should I completely separate their food? |
No you want to separate the cat food and dont give cat treats. It is too high in protein for dogs |
Tia's favorite treat-du-jour is freeze dried liver chops (Benny Bully is one brand...just make sure that liver is the only ingredient). She also likes baby carrots. My husband bought her puperoni, but I cut it into bite size pieces and keep it in a container near her pee pad.....I give her those whenever she does "her job" in the right place! |
For treats, mine get baby raw carrots, dried fruits, pop corn when we have it, Gerber toddler Fruit Chewy. They are like gummy bears only a bit softer. They also get peanuts, natural peanut butter, and I make their cookies with ground liver. |
