Having to shave dog My puppies hair got so matted that we had to shave him. Will it grow back in like it should? Or is this going to mess up his coat. Im going to have a little naked rat running around until his hair grows back. :( |
It will grow back . You should brush and comb him because he have a matted coat again . |

The coat should come back just fine. Make sure that you keep it brushed out really well though as it is growing back. If you don't keep the coat brushed you will have problems with matting. |
talking about mats.. it totally crept up on me and my boyfriend.. our poor outdoors doggie had his butt matted so bad when we shaved it.. you could see the look of sigh of relief! plus it's way hot now.. he's much happier and better looking! but on the other hand.. i had to get oreo shaved the first time i took him to the groomers because his previous owners never combed him.. and he was very matted and i didn't know cause i thought since he was half pom, he was supposed to be a ball of fluff.. lol.. but it does grow back! :) just takes time. :p |
It will grow back but you should take the habit to brush and comb him right now to get him use to . |

EEEeeeeep I am glad Oreo is only 1/2 Pom. One really hot summer I shaved my Pom Comic and a big patch on his butt took 3 years , yes, THREE YEARS to grow back. Apparently some Poms and Chows when shaved do not have regrowth. It was horrible because people thought he had mange. I ending up cutting his hair short (not shaved) into a lion cut. Everyone thought he was cute again. I was soooo happy when after all that time hair started to grow again. The vet said we were lucky. |
I didnt even know his hair was very bad. I knew his tummy was a little matted but you couldnt even feel them on his back. i have been trying to keep up with brushing him. He looks so funny. His head looks so much bigger than the rest of his body. But I will take pictures of him tomorrow and post them on here. He shrunk. Hehe. He was all hair. The only thing that was kind of stupid is they shaved him but they didnt cut the hair around his ears. So now he has big poofy ears. So i will probably cut them tomorrow. This couldnt have happened at a better time of the year though. its already in the high 90's here. Mya's_Mom We also have a half pom and half yorkie. We shave him every summer. And he turns into a totally different dog when he has short hair. He thinks hes bad when he has short hair. When his hair is long he is all prissy. Its really funny. |
