He keeps licking his foot! Is something wrong??? Hi guys! I know this may sound very silly, but being the overprotective Mom that I am, I have to ask. Zeus keeps licking his front paw. I have looked at it and can't see anything wrong with it, but I can't help but feel something isn't right. Do any of you have any ideas or am I being completely paranoid? Wouldn't be the first time!! :p |
Hannah does that too. I looked at her paw and didn't see anything. I read somewhere that that is a sign of a fungal infection, but I don't see anything.... |
Could his food be causing an allergy? Or maybe it's a nervous habit? Not sure...Maybe he got bit by an ant? Just throwing things out there :) |
Thanks! Both of those responses sound pretty good. I am guessing it isn't such a big deal. I just watch my baby like a hawk and jump at the sign that something might be wrong. I'll keep an eye on it and ask the vet if he keeps doing it. I'll let you all know if I find out anything. Thanks! :) |
My Noel does this too. Well, she licks her leg not really her foot. Just watch though because I wasn't paying attention too much and then all of a sudden she had what I thought was an abcess but turned out to be a hot spot from the licking. The vet said that it could really be from anything, including just a habit. P.S. nothing was there to cause her to lick. Like you I checked and saw nothing, that's why I didn't pay attention. Never thought it would cause a hot spot though. Elaine |
Hannah licks her toes or between her toes, it really gets on my nerves sometimes. |
Princess did that for like 3 days straight... it really worried me but she eventually stopped.. never found out why she did that  |
It is strange you should post this at this time. I just found Archie doing the same thing. upon close inspection I found at the back on one of his pads there is a place that looks like he was bit by something. I have been putting neosporin on it today and if it doesn't get any better I am taking him in to the vet before it gets really bad. I had to really look tho because it was hidden by some hair. |

I happened to be doing a search on foot/paw licking and saw this. Thumper is constantly licking is right paw/leg for the past three days. Its driving me crazy but I don't see anything wrong. Boomer has an appt for next month b/c I think he may have an allergy I think I will also bring Thumper and have him tested as well. It just makes me so nervous as I can't see anything wrong and he won't stop. |
It could be arthrtis.. Older dogs get joint pain and lick the joint .. My older Yorkie Lucy did this every night before going to sleep.. Gently massaging the joint sometimes helped... |
