Scabies? Apparently, I got my 5-mos old yorkie with scabies (from the breeder!). She was miserable but the vet dipped her in lime-sulfur dips for 4 weeks (4 times). It's alleviated her scratching, but after a week...she started scratching again. After 4 times of dipping, can she still have scabies? |

Yes if you didn't treat her surroundings BTW it can be passed on to humans too so she could be recatching it from someone who pets her ! |

My bloodhound just got the mange. We are actually still treating it. There are two forms, one which is not contagious and the other which is scabies. She got the first, but before I got her into the vet I looked around on the net for a while. I looked into the scabies. I think you want to wash all the bedding and things that she lies on and such. You may even need to put something on your carpets but I'm not sure. You may want to look it up on the web or ask the vet if you haven't already treated anything in your house to check and see if you should. Also I've heard that if you get scabies that it will turn up in between you fingers and around your waistband so watch there. Hope she gets better quick I know its unpleasant for both of you. |

Oh no, sorry to hear that!!! I don't know anything about scabies but I once got a pup that had mange and we fought it for a loooooong time but finally got it under control. I certainly hope this clears up for your baby quickly. |

I was told by the vet that mange was not contagious to humans (they may transfer but do not live long outside the dog). I have not yet shown symptoms of scabies on myself, but she's still scracthing and biting at herself, making me so worried! |

When our late dog had scabies we had to treat him wearing rubber gloves and we were told not to pet him in the area he had hair loss as it would be easily transferred from the dog to us. Perhaps there are different forms of the pest ? |

Scabies My puppy got Scabies as well! He was miserable, scratching and biting constantly. The vet gave him a shot and then I bathed him in a special shampoo (sulfer-it stinks) every 2 weeks for 6 weeks. That got rid of them but he gave them to me as well and I had to go to the doctor for medication to get rid of them. These skin mites lay eggs under the skin that hatch every 2 weeks so you need to keep treating for several weeks. VERY IMPORTANT- after each treatment you MUST wash all your puppy's bedding, blankets and everything he lays on. These things are hard to get rid of without the help of your vet. |
