Tooth Loss>>???<<< 1 Attachment(s) I took this pic of Rusty's mouth today to ask if this is normal? He is 5 months old and he really has no bottom teeth except the 3 you see. I am not sure about the top....he isn't REAL fond of us poking around in his mouth. Anyways.... any input would be great. Thanks, Angi |
How old is this dog?? Even for a puppy under 7 months, you should see the adult teeth coming in behind the puppy teeth that he lost. He just may be an a-typical case. If he's older than say 8 months and no teeth have filled in those spaces, then he may simply never grow them. And while that's a fault for breeding and show purposes, the most you might have to do is modify his diet for him. |
It's normal, both Joile and Jen is going through the same thing. Jolie was just like that - gummy! But her adult teeth are coming in. |
He is 5 months old.... Thanks for the input. I dont see white in the gum area yet to show growth, but I will keep watching. I appreciate the help. |
And you may not see any white tips under the gum line. I'd look more for irritation than anything else and maybe some swelling. If in doubt, (I'd give it another two months) then I'd ask your vet to take some x-rays and see if he's even developed them and they've just yet to surface. It happens, but it's not common. |

My Jolie has shark teeth. Literally - she has two rows of upper front teeth and none of the puppy ones are loose! She looks like a shark! But all the bottom ones came out. When we get her spayed, we will have all her puppy teeth pulled. Jewel had double canines but I've never seen double fronts! |
;) No, no Yorkie dentures. But knowing if your pup is to ever have them come in is helpful so you can modify their diet accordingly. As far as the disiduous teeth go (those puppy teeth that your little one has retained) I'm glad you are having them removed. They can collect all sorts of gunk and if not removed or cleaned properly can lead to all sorts of problems. |

Boy oh boy...I have! Our first Yorkie, Boog, had a set of double teeth and we had to have almost all of his baby teeth pulled when he was neutered at about 10 months. The poor little guy looked like an alligator or something...his little gums were so swollen and red and there were tiny teeth everywhere. He was a chewer but his teeth were in there tight! |
