Eating branches I have a lot of trees around my yard and lilacs and every time I turn around there is another branch that my dogs bit off. It's like they are beavers... yes I live in Canada...he, he. but I've heard of fetch with sticks but they are always eating sticks, pine cones or paper... is there any vitamine dificancy here or is this just normal? |
Oh my gosh I have the same problem! It's like how much wood would a yorkie chuck if a yorkie could chuck wood around my house. What's even worse is my little guy is very well behaved until he gets the sticks. Then he is like Popeye with spinach and there is no catching him as he romps around the yard munching on the stick he knows he isn't suppose to have. The only thing worse than sticks is rocks. Like his teeth need to be any sharper? I feed him the best this world has to offer and I just don't get it.....As finicky as these dogs are about what they eat on a consistant basis it hardly makes sense. Maybe I should saw down a tree and put that into his little dish I bet he wouldn't want it then... |
Oh my, I'm in the club! I was about to post a thread about this one too. lol Earlier today, I let Fred outside to explore a little bit while I ate lunch and watched over him. I go to the fridge, wash some dishes, look outside and he's gnawing on a twig!!! I'm like "Fred, no!!!". He looks at me like I'm crazy and that the stick actually tasted good. He hasn't pooped it out. I don't know if he's just gnawing at it or if he's eating it or a little bit of both. |
Us too. Bella LOVES to chew and eat on the sticks. We have a lot of trees and just can't keep all the branches off the grass. It doesn't even matter what kind of tree, she LOVES all branches |
I posted about this the other day.. Mocha swallowed a stick and it still hasn't passed.. I am a bit concerned!! Don't worry too much, I have seen things on TV where dogs have swallowed crazy stuff like knifes, etc |
Yep, Mia too! We can't keep her from weeds, branches & leaves. I live in a desert so no grass. Hopefully she won't start eating the rocks in my yard! LOL!! |
Sailor is the exact same way...she will pick up any stick she can find, she really likes the ones that are like twice her size...she thinks it is so funny and will run like crazy with them!!! |
I've seen dogs with sticks stuck in their mouths or throats too often to risk mine chewing sticks or running with them for that matter :( |
Ramsey has a thing for leaves. |
When my Chewy was little, she would try to get sticks, too. She especially loved the driftwood she would find at the beach! But, I pretty much always have kept her with a harness and a 16 foot leash, so I can "reel" her in when she found one. I know they can get splinters stuck in their esophgus, or stomach, or mouths. So, be careful folks. Don't let them have them! They will grow out of it...it probably has to do with teething. |
Mine loves everything in the yard especially anything to keep her mind of going to potty. |
