Mr. Itchy My vet thinks I am nuts. I had Lucky (golden retriever) neutered a few months ago and ever since then his skin has been a mess. Very flaky and dry with brittle hair. His hair is not falling out and he is turning his stomack beet red from scratching. The only time he seems to be comfortable is when he is lying belly down in the snow. He used to only get the occassional hot spot in the summer but not he has a new hotspot or two every week. The vet says the neutering and skin are not connected. Am I nuts???? If I am not nuts what can I give him for his skin. He has been on the same food since puppyhood and nothing in his diet has changed. The only difference in him from last year to this year is his neuterment. No fleas or documented allergies. |
Has your vet ever did a skin scrape to check for mites? (mange) |
did the vet Lucky something for the itching? What does the vet think is causing this problem? I'm with you on the neuter - itching connection simply because his hormone level is dropping as a result of the neuter and maybe it's resulted in this??? Has his thyroid level been checked? |
Do you have any of that hotspot spray? That worked well on our puppy's tummy when we first got her. She healed up after we used it a couple of times. I think it contains aloe vera. Sorry, I don't have it with me at work, so I can't tell you the brand name. I'll try to check when I go home for lunch. Also, how often do you bathe? And do you use oatmeal shampoo? Oatmeal is soothing. |
