Itching.. Hey guys, I need your help! Mr biggs has been scratching around his face/behind his ears for the past couple days. I gave him his flea meds at the begining of the month and it always works for the whole month! His scratching is driving me nuts, and now he's starting to get little scabs in some spots. Should I try giving him a flea bath, or do you think it could be something more serious like alergies? (if flea bath, any brand reccomendations?) -Christina and Mr Biggs |

maybe its the food you feeding him,, lexi used to itch like that too, i changed her food and starting bathing her with oatmeal shampoo and cond. no more itches for her |
Christina, the anti itch oatmeal conditioner is on its way. It is by bio groom and a lot of yorkie owners rave about it here. I hope it does the trick for your little stinker.:animal36 :animal36 |
Thank you so much! Mr Biggs and I are gonna have to send you and Sawyer some special treats in return :) His scratching was driving me nuts, so I kept looking at his skin and I saw little scabs and then I saw a FLEA! He doesn't ever have them because I keep him on Frontline, but I guess it just didn't work for him this time. :( He's at the groomers right now getting a flea bath, because I just felt so bad for him! The vet also told me to give him childrens benadryl, so I'm gonna give him some of that to sooth the itch and give him a nice nap. We can't wait for the conditioner! As soon as it gets here Mr. Biggs is getting a nice bath! :) Thanks again! |

itching My boy's were itching like crazy too. I tried everything and then eventually changed their food from dry Eagles Pack to Natures Variety. Also add alittle oil to their food. Problem immediately went away. |
try some grizzly salmon oil with fatty acids in it or missing link something with the extra oil it helped chester, I also run a flea comb through him every nite, I hate those pesky critters. |
My vet doesn't recommend a flea bath for these little guys, but every yorkie is different. Maybe it's the food, a lot of doggies get allergies from their food. If you saw a flea, maybe he brought fleas in the house somehow, and even though you use the frontline, they'll still jump on him. Maybe you'll have to look into getting rid of them in your house. I think someone on this forum has mentioned how, but I can't remember how. Maybe try a search. |

Meeko has the same problem. Itching behind his ears and scabbing up. The vet told me he had a "hot spot". What the... ? He only does it in one spot. Why? And what should I do? The vet told me to comb it out of his hair after a bath and put lots of Neosporin (sorry about the spelling) on it. And to give him Childrens Benadryl. It seemed to work for a while, but he keeps doing it and we have to start over. AAArrrggghhh! What prevents a Hot Spot? He has eatten the same food since he was 14 weeks and only now having this problem. Its not fleas, I had him checked by the vet and by his groomer. He seems miserable and I want to fix it, but don't know what to do. :( |
You might also want to keep some Capstar on hand. One pill kills all the fleas and prevents them for 24 hours. I used to use it when my Frontline was "wearing off". We were having a terrible time with fleas 2 summers ago and I was trying everything. I think fleas are getting resistant. |
I read a post on her that Apple Cider Vinegar is good for hot spots just spray it on,,, |
