Anyone here feed RAW? I just got a labrador puppy and a majority of the people on the lab board (www.lab-retriever.net) feed RAW. I was curious to know if anyone feeds their yorkie(s) RAW. |
I feed my boyz Nature's Variety frozen raw diet in the medallion form. I'll eventually switch to doing it myself but for now this is working for us. I just need to be sure I find the right recipe so I know they're getting everything they need when I start fixing it myself. You can check out the NV food on their website: www.naturesvariety.com |
^ i like there Ingredients i think for now dry food is just easier for us esp with 3 dogs but mabee in the future i would switch to raw |

I have a lab and a yorkie and they both have dried food. |
I have looked into the raw diet before and think it iis the best way to feed your dogs nutritionally. I just couldnt get past the thought of my dogs eating raw chicken and then coming over to lick me in the face:eek: |
I, personally, can't handle the thought of raw. Have you considered the "raw kibble".....EVO..... |

I guess yorkies are a little different than labs, too, in that yorkies never lived in the wild like labradors did. Yorkies were bred by English royalty. I doubt they ever ate wild game. Maybe a rat here and there, but never a wild beast. :D |

Nature's Variety isn't a yucky raw food like you would envision it. The type I use comes in what they call 'medallions' which are little round things that look like a very thick burger and they are frozen. I feed each of the boyz 1 medallion for breakfast and one for supper (it goes by their weight and activity level) so each night I put 2 medallions in a snack bag (2 bags, 4 medallions for the next day) and put it in the fridge to thaw for morning. I bought little Corelle berry bowls for their meals so I put 1 medallion in each bowl and pull it apart with 2 forks so it's in bite sized pieces. They absolutely love it! NV also makes dry kibble but the frozen medallions seem to keep them full all day and they don't go to their dry food bowl very much at all...I'm sure at some point I will take the bowl away altogether but for now it's there for my peace of mind. Raw meat also has a lot of liquid in it so they don't drink as much water throughout the day. Their teeth are clean and white, there's no bad breath and no bad smell around their face...no smelly or messy poops and no gas issues. I have only been feeding them NV for about 3 weeks now and I can't imagine going back to canned food! For snacks I give them a variety of fruits and veggies. |
Here is another raw variety. I think it has a lot of good ingredients without a lot of junk that a lot of pet foods are filled with. I am just now trying it out and hope it works for my 6 year old. http://www.auntjeni.com/ |

Originally, weren't Yorkies bred for ratting? That's what I read, anyways.. so they could have been eating rats and mice and similar gross things! :D |
My friend has a Great Dane and she feeds her the Raw diet thing and I don't mind telling you... whew! She grew like a weed! It got real expensive for her but I think she just cut a few things out and is still on it. She raves about it. I don't think it would be near as bad for a Yorkie (considering Mia only eats a few tablespoons a meal) :p |
