Stinky breath Sasha's breath reeks. Her food doesn't smell bad so I don't know what could be causing it. I've never seen her eat her own poop, but her breath smells like poop, and it has since the day we brought her home. I have puppy toothpaste and try to brush her teeth but the toothpaste is beef-flavored so it's not exactly minty-fresh either, and she hates getting her teeth brushed so much that she jumped off my lap onto the hard bathroom floor last night. What can I do about this, does anyone recommend any good doggie treats or mints that might freshen her up? I give her a bath and it's almost pointless, her breath stinks so bad you wouldn't know I'd cleaned her up! |
I am not sure how old your baby is, but if she is still loosing and getting her adult teeth that can sometimes cause bad breath. My Mia was that way and after she stopped teething, no more bad breath. As for brushing sometimes using the finger brush in the beginning helps them to get use to it. Also letting them chew on the toothbrush with you holding it to start with might help. My two chew on flossie's and their teeth are snow white. They are fully digestable (not like rawhide) and they love them. Also the bully sticks are good, they just smell kinda bad. Dry kibble is best for diet. The canned foods build up more on their teeth and cause you to have to do professional cleanings more often. If their teeth get build up they can loose them, yorkies are prone to loosing their teeth. My oldest girl Zoe' will be 3 next month and so far the vet says her teeth look great and we haven't had to do the cleanings with him so far. Telea and girls Zoe' and Mia:animal36 |
Timmy is the same way so I'm going to try Petzlife oral gel & spray. Alot of ppl here rave about it. There are a few TY members that sell it here. Its a little pricey but well worth it I heard. |
Telea- Sasha is 9 weeks old. |
I would think that it could be from her teeth. She is still getting baby teeth and her gums could be bleeding some while trying to get them in. Mia was like that. My first and older one didn't have bad puppy breath but the younger one did (really stinky). After she got her adult teeth she didn't have bad breath anymore. Anything you do in trying to train them as puppies most likely they will put up a little fuss. From brushing their hair and teeth to baths and so on. You just have to be consistent just like with children and show patience and lots of love. Good luck with your new girl and enjoy her. All things will come with time. Telea ;) |
yeah, i had the same problem when i just got Tippy. Her breath was the worst, i bet u can smell it from a mile away. LOL. so I started brushing her teeth (i dont know how i didn't notice this, but) i looked and i saw that she had two rows of teeth. both her baby and adult teeth! its guite common in yorkies, so she got a row pulled out and the smell is better. dont know if this is the same for your yorkie. hope this helps |
puppy A 9 week old puppy should have pleasant breath...they are too young for retained teeth and too young for tartar/gum disease..if she is not stool eating, I would ask for a health check..something is foul! |
