Rabbies Shot Nessa is going tomorrow morning for hers, im so nervous, i have heard so many stories about bad reactions afterwards . I talked to my vet today, she knows im a very nervous mommy here lol, she said that she has had yorkies that have been okay and then she has had 90 pound dogs who had a bad reaction, i guess i worry because nessa is soo Tiny . and it seems like after the shots she has gotton she is very soar and sleepy for the day, which i know is normal ... just wondering everyones experinces and thoughts on all this . Am i over reacting on being so nervous ?? Its okay if i AM .. tell me !! LOL !! HEHE :) Thanks :D (( Hugs )) |
Hannah was supposed to go back for her rabbies shot 2 weeks ago but I didn't take her because I was too nervous. She is only 5 months old and weights 2.8 lbs. |
nessa is 4 months and is 1 pound 16 oz ..... Yikes   !!! I'm so nervous !! |
That is scary, I plan to wait until she is at least 6 months old. She is inside most of the time anyway so I don't see the point in it at this time. |
My Lily got her's about 3 week's ago and she weighed 3 pound's and she was just fine.My vet said that they are more likely to have a reaction to the booster shot's then the Rabbies because the Rabbies is a dead vaccine and the booster is a live one. Also if she does have a reaction that is life threatening it happens within minute's after the shot.If your really nervous stick around a little while after words till you feel comfortable. She will be just fine. It's better to take a chance with a reaction then Rabbies. |
yeah nessa is inside most of the time too .... Yikes, i just dont know what to do   |
Pixie had her first last week and she is 3 lbs. They vet said she may be sore and would be tired. Wrong she was full of energy. |

Aubrey - you can wait till she is 6 months old to get it done. And, see if your vet will lessen the amount given. The dosage that is mandated is for a 25 lb dog - so they can give a fraction and still ensure the pup is protected. My vet's opinion is that she gives the shot and you get the certificate. If you are really uneasy, talk to your vet more and wait a little longer. |
16 oz = 1 lb ... yes???? Quote:
wouldn't that make her 2 pounds. :animal36 |

I waited until AprilLove was just over 6 months to get her the rabies, I was a worried mommy too. :-) She was still just 2.5 lbs and I was really concerned about reactions, especially since she did not do well with her bordetella (which she won't get again because I don't board her or anything.) Well, she did way better with the rabies than with the vaccines. She acted completely normal and I watched her for the rest of the day too just to be safe. My vet said if there would be a reaction (adverse) that it would most likely occur within the first couple hours. Talk to your vet if you have concerns perhaps you can wait until she is older. Nessa is such a little sweetheart doll face!!! |
