what to do !! Last night as I was looking into Desi's mouth I notice that she now has 2 rows of front teeth. This is a fairly recent occurance as I have looked into her mouth recently and didn't notice them. Ok, so her permanent teeth are coming in, but, my concern is that her baby teeth do not appear to be loose. I understand that I may have to take her to the Vet to have them pulled, but because she is small (prox. 2 1/2 to 3 lbs) my breeder does not want me to spay her until she is about a year old. My question is, can I or should I wait another six month to pull her baby teeth and do both procedures at the same time?? Or, if I wait that long, will that ruin the formation of her mouth?? The reason I looked in her mouth in the first place was because I noticed a little overbite that was not there before. Or..do you think that the baby teeth will fall out on their own?? Desi will be 6 month on June 2nd. |
From what I understand, what is happening with you dog isn't uncommon. I'm not sure what the best thing to do is. You might want to call your vet and see what they say. Oscar has double canines on his bottom, but as they don't seem to be causing a problem, I'm going to leave them for now. Someone told me there is still a possibility they will work themselves out. I'll be intersted to read others' replies as I'm also curious about this. Good luck! :) |
Stewie has two rows of front teeth and he's 6.5 mos. It makes me sad actually. I would get her spayed at 6mos or shortly after and get the teeth pulled then. A lot of dogs that small have been spayed safely. I'd be more worried about her teeth. I'm worried about Stewie's teeth. |
Can I spay her even before shes had even one heat cycle? |
Spaying/Neutering is occuring at a younger and younger age. I don't know what the risks are of doing it earlier or before her first heat. I'd just call your vet's office and ask what they recommend you to do. You probably could just explain the situation to them and they'll give you some advice. Oh and be sure they use isoflorene (sp?) to put her under when they do the procedure. |

and regarding her 2 rolls of teath, i hade a chihuahua with that same problem, her vet referd me to a another vet that does dental work for dogs. they had to remove all the baby teath, it was a beat costly but they said it had to be done. |
