"Too Many Teeth" Maggie is now 2 years old now, but until recently she had a double set of canines. Her vet recommended to "Wait And See". He said these little ones always don't do so good, when they are sedated. So, at the ripe ole age of 18 months, she finally lost the rest of her baby teeth. So, if your baby isn't losing their teeth, as fast as you think they should--you might ask your vet, if it's okay to "Wait And See". |
Lillie has double canines also and has the worst breath! Last time I had her to the vet she didnt want to spay her till she was older cause she was so small, she now weighs around 3lbs so I hope she can be spayed and her teeth pulled. I will making an appt soon to find out. Did your baby have real bad breath? |
I've ALWAYS done the "wait and see" with my dog's double canines. They've always fallen out on their own...Gracie's last canine took the longest and she was 13 months old when it came out. All of my dogs have had perfect scissor bites. Yeah, the smell can be a little rank but they've always came out on their own over here. This is JUST MY OPINION, but I think a lot of vets see this as a money maker. For example, "Well, the puppy is 9 months old and hasn't lost those baby teeth yet. Let's pull them out. It's going to cost you $200". Or, they'll want to pull them out during a spay/neuter and charge you extra. |
I should also add...that you need to follow the advice of your vet. |

Lillie will be a year old next month, shouldnt her have fallen out by now? |
My boy Rudy lost his teeth when the new ones came in however My girl Gizmo lost all of hers except for the top two canine/fangs. She finally lost them at 18 months. I wasn't too concerned because they didnot interfere with her bite and the new teeth were coming in perfectly straight. She did not have bad breath with it either. I hope this helps. If they are not coming in out of line or causing problems, I would agree with the wait and see advise. |
My daughter's chi had her baby teeth pulled when she was spayed just recently, and she was 18 months old and 1lb 12oz! But her breath was kickin' until that second set was removed. We were afraid of anesthesia because of her weight but she developed a blood infection from the rotting baby teeth and it became necessary to save her life. She is fine and recovered in a few days. PS: It's now 2 months later and her breath stinks again! Time for Scope!:D |
howie's bottom canine are coming in right next to his baby ones. is this normal? last time i was at the vet, she said i could wait it out, or do it later (after i get him neutered). i wanted to do it at the same time because it would obviously cost less, but also the risk of putting him under. but, since we've been to the vet, teeth have started to come in. and when i look at his back molars, it looks huge! i'm not sure if it's normal. can anyone help? especially w/ his canines growing right next to the baby ones. thanks! |

I was going to post my own thread about Siu Pao's teeth but I found this thread. I wanted more opinion though. Siu Pao is 9 months old and he still has his 4 baby canine teeth. He doesn't have double row of teeth problem. Only that the baby canine teeth isn't coming out. His breath sometimes stinks but I have been brushing his teeth and it smells better now :D My question is, should I spend $250 on extracting the baby canines or wait? Will it ever ever come out on their own? Someone once told me they will come out on their own but how long more do I have to wait? |
