Buttermilk???????? Hi, I was writing to my breeder tonight and asking of the supplies she thought I would need and my puppies sch. as far as sleep and she said he (sparky)enjoys buttermilk right before bed.Is this okay I thought you werent supposed to give puppies milk/Has anyone ever done this if so why? |
I've never given milk. I don't think its necessary. Is she just using it as a treat? |
What I've read about milk is that the vast majority of dogs are lactose intolorant and you won't know if you're dog is until they have dairy... so they just recommend you ere on the safe side and just never give your animal dairy products. I think, for this specific dog, you'd be okay giving him buttermilk if you wanted because you know he won't have a bad reaction to it.... Although, obviously, milk is not in the dog's regular diet and I'm sure you could cut it out without anything bad happening as well. |
You could try giving it to him. Many dogs are lactose intolerant, but the only way to know is to try. It sounds like he's had it before, so it'll probably be fine. Some dogs do fine with cheese and not with milk--I think it has to do with the amount of lactose. :) |
No milk for me please.. My Gizmo's belly cannot handle milk..it's an ugly scene. The vet told me Giz has pancreatitis and is to have nothing but food and treats made for dogs. That their digestive system (especially Yorkies) is not built to handle people food, and really causes my dog problems. So no more chicken nuggets for the Giz Man. He does love raw baby carrots and seems to agree with him.. |
