Question about chicken soup and Solid Gold My new puppy came with a sample of Chicken Soup (smaller bites) and I think the solid gold is the bigger food. Anyway, the breeder is out of town and I have a few questions. 1. Do I mix the 2 together, or does she eat chicken soup now and Solid gold when she gets bigger? 2. Where do you buy Chicken soup from? 3. Have you heard of dogs scratching after eating this food? She is scratching up a storm. She has also snuck over and eaten out of Kodaks food which I now move. He eats the yorkie brand Royal Canin and he's been scratching to. I think I need some skin vitamins, he was just at the vet on Friday and doesn't have fleas. She's going tomorrow. |
Well, that Royal Canin does contain corn and a lot of dogs are sensitive to it. It could be just about anything, though, and it's frustrating. The solid gold is pretty large kibble. I've never seen the chicken soup, so i have no idea about that, sorry:( Mine get a mixture of Solid Gold, Blue Buffalo, Castor and Pollux, and Wellness:laugh: Ended the pickiness, I tell ya! Both of mine are puppies, though, I can't imagine having to keep their food seperate, that must be hard. |
Do you know which kind of Solid Gold it is - cause the Wee Bits are the smallest kibble I've seen yet. That is what I use for mine. You can give the adult food (the Wee Bits) to a puppy as long as they are eating good. You really shouldn't give puppy food to an older dog though since it is higher in calories and fat. If you do transition one or both pups, do it slowly so there are no issues with loose stools. It is much easier to have them both on the same food, then you don't have to worry about who is eating out of a dish!! As for the skin itchies, are you using a really good quality shampoo? I would try the Shea Pet that Sassypup sells - it is awesome and is an anti-allergy formula, as is the conditioning spray. Good luck! |
I agree with Jodi its probably not the food. How often do you bath your puppy? Alot of people tend to bathe their new puppy to frequently. Just like a new car. My breeder told me not bathe Carson more than once in a 2 week period. When I got Carson at 5 mos he was on Eureka puppy chiots. Today a year later I still serve that because it is small and tasty and my other Yorkies sometimes eat but they are all on the thinner side so I don't worry about the "calories" Carson also has always taken bites of the older Yorkies food and thats ok too. Having 6 yorkies I free feed them all and surly don't have time to monitor who's eating what all the time. They are happy and healthy and thats the modt important thing to me. |
If either of your dogs are eating a food wtih CORN, WHEAT, BARLEY, or RYE in it, then it most likely IS the food that is making them scratch!!!!!!!! I know that RC contains CORN and Chicken Soup Puppy contains BARLEY. I would take them both off those foods and put them both on Canidae All Life Stages. It contains NONE of those ingredients, and is the best dog food on the market, in my opinion. And the best part is, you can feed them both the same food because it is "All Life Stages." I have done TONS of research on dog foods and I wholeheartedly recommend switching. |
Thanks guys for the info, it is hard keepin their food seperated, I just feed the seperately now. The solid gold puppy is so big I didn't think she should be eating it. I will try online to see if I can purchase a bag of dog food. No store around me sell any of the foods you all are recommended.:( |
Have you seen the Solid Gold Wee Bites? The kibble is tiny. It comes in a pretty pink bag.;) |
