Well... it turns out he has a yeast infection!!:shocked7q OMG??? they gave me some medicine and cleaner. Im supposE to clean and medicate his ears everyday for 10 days, and then bring him back to the vet to see is it clears up... OMG... WHAT CAUSED THIS????? also, i think his ears smell very bad, the vet said it was NORMAL... I THINK THEY DOTN KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKIGN ABOUT, B/C THE SMELL IS DISGUSTING..... ADVICE PLEASE!! |
NO their ears should NOT smell, that's a sign that something is not right. Usually yeast forms when their ears get wet. You need some kind of drying solution to put in there after baths/swimming;) After it's all cleared up of course:D Don't bathe him until the vet says it's all gone, and make sure you use a drying solution in his ears, just squirt a good amount in there, rub the base of his ears to work it in, then let him shake:p |
It's nothing you did. I'm a vet tech and we see it all the time. Do what the vet told you to do for 10 days, then he will probably have you stop for ten days and the do it all over again for ten more days. it's not a bad theing it happens and you did the right thing to take him to the vet so you can get him all fixed up!:D |
My golden retriever has had chronic yeast infections in his Left ear only since puppyhood (+8yrs). He had the infection when I got his from the breeder. We (breeder, myself, and vet.) all thought with antibiotics it would clear up. It will clear up for a week or so and then come right back. He has never has problems with his Right ear though. He has been on 6 or 7 different antibiotics for his ear. Unfortunately, he has had to have his ear canal cut down because of scar tissue formation. I take such good car of his ears, too. It is so frustrating. Plus he is allergic to most ear cleasers. He will be fine with them for a week or so and then his ear will turn beet red and little pus pocket will form. He is so good about it though and will let me take care of his ear no matter how much it must hurt. I have even tried several ear powders which are supposed to make the ear and unfriendly environment to no avail. I personally don't think yeast infectations can be fully clean plus yeast naturally occurs on the dog's body and such not harm them. Good luck with your baby's ear infection though.:) |
thank you so much for the information. i will ask my vert about the drying solution once its all cleared up. thats sounds like a great idea. |
