Seems like nothing is gonna work... I am at my wits end. I am slowly but surely going through every brand of food I find recommended here and, so far, all have been strike outs. I am so frustrated. I went back to the pet store again and returned the Yorkie food...got Canidae. Nope. :thumbdown She just won't eat it. So I mixed up 1/4 teaspoon of Missing Link that I just bought with a tablespoon of cottage cheese. She ate about half. Then, I boiled a chicken breast and mixed a little with what was left and she ate it all. Wanted more....so I gave her a bit more...twice. Looks like I have a gourmet baby here that I am going to have to cook for. Now I need some good recipes for food that will nourish her and meet her nutritional needs. If anyone has recipes to share, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance, Sammi |
I think that home cooked is the best............if that's what it's going to take.....definitely do it. Good luck |
Sissy gets mostly home-cooked food. For breakfast, she gets 1/4 of a container of Dannon Activia Vanilla yogurt with her Missing Link. Pieces of fruit and sometimes cheese during the day and then dinner is boiled chicken, brown rice, sweet potato, carrots, asparagus & spinach. This is what I do..... Biol about 1 lb of boneless, skinless chicken breasts (I buy Amish) Cook 1 to 1/2 C brown rice (I use a rice cooker, $15) Steam a peeled, choppped sweet potato Steam, fresh aparagus, carrots, spinach (or whatever veggies) till barely crisp Dice the chicken and veggies into tiny pieces and mix with brown rice. Put into 1.5 or 2 Cup freezer containers. It should fill 3-4 containers. When feeding, put about 1/4 C onto plate and microwave for 20 seconds. One container will last approx. one week. Other meats such as veal, salmon, venison, very lean ground beef can be substituted. Good luck to you and your baby!! |

Before you give up please give Nature's Variety a try. It's a frozen, raw diet that's very good for them. I just switched my boyz over to it a week or so ago and they absolutely love it. They also make dry kibble but my boyz aren't too crazy about the dry. You can check it out at: www.naturesvariety.com Quote:

I knew I could count on you all I am going to try both of these...The colsest Natures Variety is thirty miles from me. I will go there on Tuesday and check it out. I'm going to do the recipe tomorrow and see if she will eat it. The yougurt with missing link starts in the morning. :) Thanks for both.:thumbup: |

You should also try Artemis. Kona would rarely eat dry food before but she'll eat this rather quickly. I haven't been able to find it in store so I suck it up and buy it online. Good luck!! |
Too funny..... After I sent my husband packing I haven't had to worry about cooking for anyone but me (and I don't cook much for me). Now, I have gotten another companion that demands I cook...but with much better rewards. :D |
It's so much better knowing what they are eating, and that there are no preservitives, coloring and lots of things we can't even pronounce much less know what the heck it is. :D |
I really don't understand why she isn't eating. The breeder said she was a piggy. Maybe since she was eating with the other dogs there she ate that way to make sure she got her share...or maybe she is a social eater? She seems fine....but...??? I know one thing for sure...I love, love, love her!!!!! |

Well.... Your Bailey is still a puppy, right? Sassy is ayear old and the vet told me she needs to be eating dry food for her teeth. She was a year old last month and the breeder had her on puppy food and he told me to change that. She has some tartar on her teeth which he said could be causing her bad breath. I need to get them cleaned but I am ever so cautious about procedures that require anesthesia. She has an appointment for a spay this month, on Valentine's day, actually and I am nervous about that. She just looks so tiny to me. I made her some rice and chicken and she turned away. Wasn't even tempted by the chicken. Maybe I am just trying too hard. I always have the dry down there so she can eat if she wants, but she doesn't ever touch it. **sigh** What's a mommy to do? Has anyone ever used the spellcheck feature on here? It is weird. Suggested I change turned to durned, told to doled, teeth to doeth, tartar to darter, tiny to dine, rice to race, touch to doch (I don't even know that word). If I had changed all of those words you all would have thought I have lost my mind. (Which I have but I am keeping it to myself). |

I went and picked out a good bag of food and finally when he got really hungry he decided to eat. Sounds bad I know but when they get good and hungry they will eat. I finally decided to feed Diesel Innova. It only contains 24% protein. He is still a picky eater but he does like it. He likes to pick at the bowl off and on all day long. I pick the food up at night and have actually had him beg and cry for his food. I would also make sure that you keep some Nutrical on had just incase she doesn't eat like she should. It may just take awhile for her to come around. It took Diesel awhile. Good luck |
