Heat cycles? Chloe is not only my first yorkie, but my first dog. I know nothing about when they go into heat. What is the approximate age of their first heat, and approximately how often do they come? How do you know they are in heat? When do they bleed? How long? Chloe is 4 months old, so I want to know what to watch out for. Thanks, Misty |
Your Baby is Adorable! Congrats on your new yorkie, she's a cutie! My Sassy had her first heat at 9 months old. The heat cycle lasts for 21 days. They will bleed heavily for the first 9-14 days and then the color starts to lighten up (yellowish color). My dog goes into heat every 7 months. Hope this helps you! |

Ruby did not come into heat until she was right at one year old. At first, she would lick and she was swollen. The swelling surprised me more than anything, I didn't realize they swell THAT much. About a week later she started bleeding. There really wasn't a lot of bleeding, and she kept herself clean for the most part. The bleeding did last longer than I thought it would, tapering off after about 9 days. Her teats remained swollen though, even a couple of weeks after the bleeding. This was Ruby's experience and I know different dogs will have slightly different heats, as far as, length, amount of bleeding, swelling, etc. Hope this helps some. Ruby will be getting spayed before her next heat. After reading an article on spaying, I chose to wait until after her first cycle. |

I want to say thank you too. My Isis is a week into her first heat... Each pup is so different. She is really clean about herself and you hardly even know she is in heat. She is swollen tho and I will also be getting her spayed later this spring. |
Mine is 10 1/2 months old and still hasn't had her first heat yet is this strange?:confused: |
