Bad Breath Buddy is a 7month old Yorkie, with extremely fowl breath. The Vet suggested he might be eating is stools, but he's definately not, or the food he was eating, or look for infected tooth. His gums and teeth look fine, and I have him on Nutro MAX Puppy for all breeds. For awhile I thought it was one of his toys and took it away, it seem to get better and then it came back. I thought maybe it was his rawhide, but those are gone and he still has it. He doesn't act sick so I really don't know. The clinic still seems to think it's the food, but my other dog ( which just died) and my outside cats eat everything and there breath never smelled this bad, but I had a Llasa that passed away too and she had fowl breath also. But, I new her teeth were bad and she was 13yrs. old, I just figured it came with age and she wouldn't let me brush. Buddies teeth I brushed, but I can't say it smelled any better. Any suggestions???????????????????? |
Petzlife tooth gel........ I just got some from "Beyond Spoiled". You can search other threads and read more about it.:aimeeyork |
I think my daughter's 1lb12oz chi takes the cake for the most offensive dog breath. She had 2 sets of teeth as she never lost her baby teeth. She was being spayed a few weeks ago and her baby teeth were all pulled. Her breath was better for about 2 weeks and now the stink is back, just as bad as ever. She is so lovable and loves to kiss you on the lips and all over your face but you have to hold your breath! I really think it comes from her stomach because that bad breath was present when we first got her at 10 weeks old. My Yorkie's is better but he could use some Scope too!:animal36 |
ditto My vet suggested:eek: Gigi must eat her stool, which I assured her she doesn't because she's monitored. I've started brushing her teeth, which has tartar buildup from eating commercial dog food that her breeder fed her. She will be having her baby teeth pulled. I wonder if that's the cause, she sure is stinky :tongue2: |

The smell of your mouth and body is a direct result of what your eating. Try real food. |

I used Petzlife tooth gel and spray daily with Harley and it does wonders. As far as rawhides, please don't feed them, they will kill. |

I agree with the stomach theory too for some cases. My female has rank breathe. Her teeth are fine. She was recently on antibiotics and I noticed her breath didn't have any odor at all. I mentioned this to my Vet and he said that is because it kills bacteria in the stomach which can cause bad breath. I am not saying this is across the board and I think it certainly warrants checking into but I know for my dog that is where the stink comes from. |
Bad Breath I am so relieved to see that others have the same issue with their babies as I do mine. Benjamin is 5 months old, just started losing teeth and has breath that smells like fish! I feed Innova Evo and he is always on a leash outside so, it can't be what he's eating. It sounds like this is a common teething problem? Anyone else have thoughts? |
If your baby is 7 months old, his breath smells because he is TEETHING! So, no worries! It will clear up in another couple of weeks once he stops teething. I also use the Petzlife gel and it makes my yorkies' teeth nice and sparkly. |
Thank you to those those that answered about Benjamin and his horrible breath. It is actually better and I've noticed that each time he bites down on something, he loses a baby tooth. I'll wait to see what happens after all of his baby teeth are gone but, I think you all are right, it looks like a teething issue. Hope you all had a wonderful Valentine's day and thank you again for your help. Sure glad I came across this forum! |
If it is coming from his stomach, it can't hurt to feed him a small blop of active yogurt daily... |
