Royal Canine Hi, I was in Pet Smart this weekend with Izzy and there was a representative from Royal Canine there. She was telling me that they have food that is for Yorkies because they did research on different breeds and found that they need food specific to their breed. Does anyone feed their Yorkie this brand of pet food, if so what do you think about it? She said it was just as good as the Nutro Ultra Im feeding him now. Just wondering? |
Mine eat royal canin and love it. I dont think its as good as nutro though because royal canin has corn in it and I didnt think nutro did |

I know all of you want to do the best by your dogs, but I will say what I tell my new families, you can feed the best food your money can by, but if they don't eat it, what good is it. |
I would have bought it if it did not have the corn. If you see the rep again, ask why they put corn in there! |
My two eat it... Both of their breeders had them on the puppy kibble when I got them so I just naturally transitioned them to the adult food of the same brand. It does have corn in it though, which some dogs have allergies to. One thing I do like is that the kibble is quite small. Ruthie likes to swallow her food whole, so the kibbles have to be teeny for her. I haven't found another kibble with pieces as small as RC. |
Evie eats the puppy formula (b/c of age and weight) and soon she will be switched over. SHE LOVES IT. Courtney |
My two pups eat it and just love it! Jack would not eat ANYTHING so, we tried this and he eats the puppy formula great now. I have not tried the adult formula yet though. |
I feed Royal Canine |

This is the smallest kibble I have found...and the Nutro Natural Choice has no by products and no corn! |
I've posted before that I tried the Royal Canin and had to switch because Brandy got really itchy from it (I assume because of the corn). This may not be a problem for some others. Infact, Titan was fine with it. Aside from that, one of their marketing points is the size and/or shape of the kibble is supposed to help keep the teeth clean and healthy when they chew it. My two were pretty much swallowing most of it whole. Prior to that I was feeding Nutro lamb and rice which was a little larger kibble size and they chewed it. Now I am feeding California Natural and they do seem to chew most of it so it is working out well for us (and no more itching for Brandy). Oh and my two are in the 5 1/2 to 6 1/2 lb range, so pretty average sized yorkies, I guess. As far as taste, both of my yorkies loved all three brands. Actually I have never come across a food or treat that my two don't love and eat with gusto. I can't imagine dealing with picky eaters like to many of you all do. |
I feed Rocky the Royal Canine Yorkie, and he loves it. I orginally was feeding him the Nutro Ultra which he would eat, but he would eat very slowy because the kibble is so large. A friend gave some of the RC, so I mixed it with his Nutro see see if he liked it. Well Rocky ate all the RC and took all of the Nutro kibble out of his bowl. So I switched. |

oooh... I may have to try that when I get through this monster bag of RC... Ruthie has started to show some really dry skin - now I'm not sure if that's because I've switched her to adult completely now or if it's because of the winter weather and how dry it is in my apartment... Anyways, I will definitely keep that in mind! Thanks! |
My :aimeeyork :aimeeyork :aimeeyork love the Royal Canine. I too put a few kibbles in with the food they were eating at the time and they dug and cherry picked out the Royal. We switched! I have wasted a lot of money trying to find the best food for them, but as Mardelin said what good is it if they won't eat it! |

I feed mine Royla canin also and mine love it. |
I really dislike corn in any of the food and very few are without it. I called the lady distributor for Canidae yesterday and a 5.5 lb bag of kibble is $8.29. I need to try this soon. I got two samples of Life Abundance in the mail today and started using it in lieu of treats one kibble at a time. This is much too expensive for me to buy permanently when there are still a few quality foods on the market here locally. |

puppy food? I have heard that Natural Choice is the best thing to give Yorkies...I just got my baby yesterday and she is 9 weeks old. Does anyone know if they make one specifically for puppies? Also what is a good treat to give her that is healthy?:animal36 |
I started mine on Nutra but they hated it and wouldnt eat it...then we switched to RC and they LOVE it!! I have to watch it though because my 30 pound Boykin Spaniel LOVES it too and she will gobble it all up before my lil ones even get a chance lol... Dawn |
I ordered some Life Abundance samples and mixed them in with the food for my 14 week Yorkie. Her stool became real soft and green. It took the garden hose to get it off the sidewalk where she unloaded. It may be I mixed too much in too suddenly. Trying to get to the Canidae distributor to pick up a bag of their wonder. |

My two yorkies are fed on Royal Canine Yorkshire terrier food and they do very well on it and they love it. I also do feed them a wet meat food as well once a day. I would not recommend you leave the dry food down all the time but I find that my two eat it up so quickly that there is none left to leave. I think that we should always watch our dogs eat in case they should choke at any time and we are there to cope with it. |

Daisy used to eat Nutro but I found that she was always itching. I switched to RC and she stop itching and she loves it. I personally think her coat looks better as well. |
