Pedialyte..... I was just reading some old posts on the board and seen someone mention giving pedialyte to puppies just to keep their system in balance.... Lily is 9 weeks on Tuesday. I was wondering if I should be giving her pedialyte here and there....she is drinking and eating fine. |
I have only given Pedialyte when they were sick with diarrhea or vomiting to help with dehydration. I wouldn't use it regularly. Are you maybe thinking of Nutrical? Many folks give that regularly with young pups to help prevent hypoglycemia..... |
i do the same...pedialyte only when bella is sick. but i do give nutrical on a regular basis.... |
pedialyte is usually used for vomiting or diarrhea to keep them hydrated with the proper nutrients. |
I didnt know if anyone gave them some for a little sugar and hydration here and there. I give her nutrical here and there. Maybe I read the post wrong. :) |
I wish I had known of nutrical when my oldest dodged a bullet a year or so ago. She went into shock with her tongue hanging out and we thought it was the end. At first I thought my little one had choked her. Missie is now 13 yrs old and doing fine for her age. We kept her warm and put her in a quiet area and gave her some water on her tongue. I think nutrical would have done a lot better. Never made it to the vet, she panted and panted then slept. I keep nutrical now and when I dont feel they are eating enough just a little dab will do ya. |

I havent used any myself I was just curious if it was used for anything other then diaherria and vomiting.... I was just curious if it was ever used for sugar replacement rather than the nutrical. I also use nutrical but was just interested in knowing if it served other purposes! Thanks. :) |
If you are wanting to use it for sugar just put a teasoon of sugar in her regular drinking water. Its cheaper |

It's good to have both on hand, I need to get some Pedialyte to keep around just in case;) |
why can you only keep the pedialyte for 5 days??? even if it is in the fridge?? |
Know what, that's a good question. I always hated tossing it when my kid had only had a little of it:( It may not be 5 days, it's been a while since I bought any. I was just saying that it has a short shelf life, kwim? They do have the smaller bottles of it now, but those are super expensive. Shysters:mad: ! I could have sworn that I saw a recipe somewhere for homemade pedialyte, you may want to search for it:thumbup: I'm sure it's much cheaper to make yourself and not too hard at all;) |
