Sharp Head Shake Samson was diagnosed with upper respioratory stridor. At first we thought it was a collapsed trachae. He has some slight coughs and makes funny sounds and loud snoring at times. The head shakes last only a second, but they are noisy and I worry about them. I don't know if they are allergies. He does not chew his feet or body like I have seen on some dogs. He eats well and is acitve and healthy otherwise. Any ideas on the hard/sharp head shake? Thanks, Don |
What are you feeding him? |

Samson Hard Head Shakes Samson is fed Royal Canin Hypoallergenic HP 19 from the vet. It is a diet formula too. I thought it may be good for his allergies, but not sure. Samson is also overweight by 2#. Thanks for your interest. Don Bowles |
Hummmmm....look at the ingredients list...does that food contain any wheat, barley, rye, soy, dairy, corn, beef, chicken, rice or turkey? If it does, he has probably developed an allergy to one of these ingredients. I would suggest switching to Natural Balance Sweet Potato & Fish formula or Natural Balance Duck & Potato formula. Both of these are the very best foods for allergies because of the "exotic" ingredients. |
At the vet today I overheard a vet tech saying head shaking like that is a symptom of ear infection. There was a man in with his Poodle that had an ear infection, and that was one of his symptoms. Vet tech said it bursts blood vessels in the ears. I would take him to a vet asap. |
It could be many things. Why don't you ask your vet? The head shaking could be an ear infection, epilepsy, neurological disorder, etc. I don't know what that respiratory Stridor is, but my brothers Yorkie makes snorting noises during the day, and snores at night, and has to have a flap of skin removed from the back of it's throat. You might want to look into that. |
