Earmites???? My Chewy has been shaking his head more than usual and i removed brown dirt-like stuff from his ears. He is not scratching more that usual. Could this be earmites? How can i tell if this is what it is? What's the treatment? Is seeing the vet the only option? Thanks |
Hi there: This is the other Chewy's mom. My old dog had ear mites and the symptoms were similar to yours...that awful brown discharge from the ears and a really bad smell, shaking the head and scratching. Your vet will take some of the ear discharge and look at it under the microscope. They will be able to tell if the crawlies are there and then you will get some drops for the ears. Good Luck! |

If you place a lil bit of that gooky brown stuff on a dark piece of paper, like black construction paper, and look closely..you will be able to see the tiny lil white specks crawling around...pretty gross.... |
my comet had the same exact symptoms when I just got him and was in fact treated for ear mites. The vet used a 1 time drop solution that cleared it up in a day or two. Shaking the head and scratching the ears w/brown smelly discharge could be a range of different types of ear infections. Fungus, yeast, mites.... Your vet will be able to pinpoint what type of ear infection it is an treat it appropriately. You should have in checked asap. Good Luck |

really thats kool  |
Yeah, it is really cool, well gross and cool at the same time lol.....I did it years ago with a kitten I had.....and it really works! |
It could be an ear infection. Some ear drops from the vet cleared Stewie's right up. From what I understand, they should not ever have brown stuff in their ears. If they do, its mites or an infection. |
