Question about bathing a new puppy 1 Attachment(s) I just bought Missy on Sunday so we have had her for 3 days now and she is only 11 weeks old. Is she too young for a bath? She hasn't had her rabie shot yet and I was told to wait until she is four months old (still a month away) before she gets her shot, so taking her to the groomer is out, so I will have to give her a bath myself. How do I bath her? Any responses are greatly appreciated. Thanks for your patience with me as I am a new dog owner. |
My gal had pups on Dec 5 and the vet told me that I could bath them at 5 weeks with baby shampoo. They did very well. She's adorable by the way :) |
She's not too young, just be sure to keep her as warm as possible. I think starting them young is good, they get uwsed to it quicker, although mine never do get so they like it, they just tolerate it. |
Yup it's ok to bath i just got Daisy and she was 11 weeks i gave her a bath 3 days after she got here and she did fine just have everything ready for bath and after bath right there. |
Bathing at this young age is super easy because you can just hold your baby in one hand and wash at the same time. It's when they get bigger that it can be a "good ol' time!" |
When my girls were that small, I took them right in the tub with me & placed them on my lap. To this day they love getting their baths, although their in the tub alone now. |
I wouldn't bathe her unless she's really dirty and stinks. Otherwise I'd just give her a dry bath. I can give you a recipe to make up if you want. Just pm me. |

This recipe is out of Dr. Pitcairn's book titled; Dr. Pitcairn's complete guide to NATURAL HEALTH FOR DOGS AND CATS. I would cut this recipe down for a tiny puppy to 1/4 cups oatmeal (uncooked) and 1/4 cup cornmeal. Heat oven to 350 degree. Lay oatmeal and cornmeal flat out in a cooking sheet and bake for 15 minutes. Rub gentley into the hair and massage. Brush out with a soft bristle brush or wash cloth. If you want, you can then rub some brewers yeast into the fur and massage and brush out. The brewers yeast is a natural insect repellent. |
