The Whole Dog Journal February issue DRY FOOD LIST is out!! I don't really feel comfortable posting it, since it's all copyrighted, but if you'd like me to check if yours is on the list just let me know!! I look forward to this every year. They also explain how the big names can get away with selling junk. This is a great issue so if you don't have a subscription this is the month to join. www.whole-dog-journal.com |
Thanks for the heads up! Can you let me know if Merricks and Canidae All Life stages are on the list? thanks! |
Of course they are both on there. Also check out the new Canidae Lamb & Rice - we just switched from the All Life Stages. It's stinky but Loki loves it. |
Thanks. I plan on trying the Lamb after I finish this bag of All Life Stages. I figured both foods would be on the list, but I always feel better knowing for sure. |
You have to pay to see the article. Oh well.. It will probably be elsewhere on the internet. I will loo for it in bit. It should be intresting to see. |

How about Nutro Natural Choice? Or California Natural Lamb and Rice? |
Life's Abundane? Also, what does it mean if it is or not on the list? Thanks |
They don't do every flavor of every brand. California Natural Chicken & Rice is on the list, but Lamb & Rice is almost identical. Nutro is not on the list. I don't believe there are by-products in Nutro so their objection must be the amount of grain, but rice is better than corn! Some of the foods on this list are absolutely phenomenal so some of the OK ones don't make it. |
How about Innova or EVO and wet merrick? |

So based on the list..........which were the top 3 best ones...........can you post that? Thanks in advance, :) Jess |
What about Chicken Soup?? |
Could you check and see if Natural Balance Venison/Brown rice and the Natural Balance Duck/pototo ...... and please just one more, the Solid Gold Wee Bits. |
Canidae is. Life's Abundance is not. They didn't review every single food, so they also gave criteria for evaluating the ingredients. -High-quality animal protein (and lots of it) -Whole grains and veggies - and they specifically said they are OK with one grain "fragment" or whatever but don't like several (I call these fillers) -No meat or poultry by-products -No foods with meat not specified by species (like "animal" fat, "meat" meal) -No artificial colors, flavors, preservatives -No added sweeteners -And they like Organic. If it's a big name food that's not on the list, there is probably a reason. There is a very interesting article with the list. Anyone who is more than casually interested might really want to spend the $20 for the year's subscription. I love this magazine. I even send a subscription to my local library. |
