false pregnancy Hi, I have a 11 month yorkie. She had her first cycle in mid july when she was 8 months old. Last week, I noticed that her tits where bigger than usual and that they were leaking milk. I did a bit of research on internet... could not find much but did find out that false ou pseudo-gestation is a possibility in dogs. For sure, my female yorkie is not pregnant... she is always with me... and was not in contact with a non-castrated male while she was in heat. So,, is this something normal? Should I consult... put her on hormone medication. Is this something that she is going to have each time she is in heat. Any advice is welcome... Give me your experiences... your advices... Talk to me about this phenomenon and tell me if this is common or unusual for yorkshire do to so. Thankyou |
This is common for dogs. Their bodies go through the same hormones if they are bred or not. Its better for them if you have them spayed so they don't go through the hormone swings and have less chance of mammary cancer later. |
When I was showing English Setters, my female went through a false pregnancy. Poor dog was miserable. Didn't have her spayed until she was six years old. Too late.....she died of mammary cancer at eight years old. So sad. Spaying and neutering are so important if you are not going to breed or show your dog. |
