Glucosomine??? I am sure we all know that our yorkies are prone to arthristis in their joints. I was thinking of giving my chewy glucosomine because his knee pops out of place sometimes when walking or running. Does anyone give this to their yorkie? Does it work? Any info on this subject will be helpful. Thanks |
I give my dog glucosame for exactly the same reason. He has patella luxation in both back knees and does agility as well as a number of other dog sports. He is 6 years old and 7.8 pounds. I try to keep him in good muscle tone and thin to reduce the stress on his joints. I use consequin as it is the only supplment on the market that has been tested for its effectivness. However, these tests are based on dogs who already have arthitic changes. There's no evidence one way or the other as to whether supplmenting glucosomine before a dog develops arthritis will prevent it from occuring. Since its a nutricel without any known side effects, other than the impact to your wallet, I say, why not? Other things you may want to investigate: condroiten (sp?) - already in cosequin MSM Penna muscle A product call "DGP" - Dog Gone Pain A product called "Conquer K9" The latter two products are anti-inflammatory. |
My Chewy has the same thing....I heard cosequin is good, too. I haven't done any yet, but I intend to do something soon. |
Where do you get your meds? From your vet or online or what? And if you don't mind, how much does it cost for cosequin and glucosomine? Thanks! :p |
I always get my meds at the vet , I don't trust online meds . Reveived lots of advertizing animal's meds on my email box . I flush them before reading . |
Cosequin is a brand name of a form of glucosomine and condritan (sp?). I my vet gives me scripts. I order mostly from Foster & Smith which has an on-line pharmacy and competitive prices. Consequin is expensive and it is far less so from Foster & Smith than from my vet. They have a good reputation and I've not had a problem with them. I also get my flea control, heartworm, heart medication and addisson's medication from them. |
