I think she has a UTI! Also breathing weird. I don't know?? :questione :questione I think my little Bella has a urinary tract infection. She is peeing all the time, it is dark yellow, (much darker than Charlies) and she stinks to high heaven :shocked7q . I thought that she just needed a bath, but as soon as she pottied, she started to stink again. Do puppies get UTI? and what should I do about it? |
I Hope this Helps. Signs your dog might have a UTI In addition to increased frequency of urination, the classic signs of a UTI are: Urination in inappropriate places Difficulty when urinating (straining) Pink or red urine (indicating the presence of blood) Strong and/or foul smelling urine Lethargy Fever If you notice any of these signs you should have your dog examined immediately. Your veterinarian will give your dog a urinalysis to determine the presence of bacteria – which will confirm that your dog has an infection. If your dog is diagnosed with a UTI, your veterinarian will probably recommend oral antibiotics to treat the infection. Treatment usually includes one to two pills a day for the duration of at least two weeks. Steps you can take to prevent UTIs Make sure your dog has the opportunity to go outside every few hours in order for him to relieve himself. Also, ensure your dog drinks plenty of fresh water throughout the day. This will help flush out his urethra and help prevent bacteria from entering his bladder. I got this all from: http://www.pedigree.com/PedigreeCent...+Infection.asp Best Wishes! Hope everything ends up ok! keep us posted! |
Thanks! I am taking her in tomorrow for sure. Also she is doing this crazy breathing thing. She sounds like (for lack of a better description) she is in lamaze. She occasionally starts to breathe rapidly through her nose, like she is a woman practicing for child birth. I have no idea what it is. She is only 15 weeks and has been doing this about 5 or so times daily for the last 2 days. Any suggestions or thoughts about what this may be? |
Ginger has been doing that a lot too lately. well i don't know if it's the same thing.. but she only does it when she gets really excited. i think it's called reverse sneezing.. but don't hold me on it. :) |
yeah, I read the post on the reverse sneezing, but it seems like it is longer than just a sneeze or two, it lasts for about 15 seconds or so. She also does it in her sleep, or lying on the bed, so it's not just when she is excited. Although I would be very happy if that's all it is. |
Mandee, I don't want to scare you, but I just want to tell you that we thought my yorkie had a UTI as well, same symptoms as your pup so they did the urinalysis and urine culture, but they weren't able to identify a bacteria. They also found a couple of little crystals in his urine. That worried me but the vet said to give him antibiotics and he'd be fine. Well he got better. A couple of months later, the same thing happened again, but this time, I read up on this. I had the vet do a bile acid test along with the urine tests, just to see if his liver enzymes were elevated which could indicate a liver shunt, and they were! I had them do this as a precautionary thing, not because I really thought he had a shunt. The urine thing was his only symptom. It's a good idea to bile acid test your pup just in case, it's like $50-$60, but it will give you peace of mind. |
Mine also does that weird breathing thing, and it usually lasts about 10 seconds also, we just pet him and say it's ok, it's ok. I don't think it's anything to worry about at all :) but if the vet tells you it is, please let me know. |
Went to the vet today, and Bella apparently has a yeast infection. He said that it is fairly common in the little puppies, because their blatters are so small. He said that sometimes they will "leak" a little when they are sleeping, and that is enough for the bacteria to grow and give them an infection. As far as the breathing thing, she also has the beginning of an upper respiratory infection. He said that the antibiotics will treat both. He said that it was good that I caught it early, because it could get worse, but it's mild now and will make it easier for to get better. Yeah! I am so glad that I checked on it early, because I am going on my honeymoon next week and I would be sooo worried if she was sick when I left. |
Our Yorkie, Carib 2 1/2, does the "honking" noise thing too. Our vet said not to worry about it - but as a "Mom" I do. Read up on reverse sneezing and it does sound like what he has but I'm no vet. Any idea of the difference in symptoms between reverse sneezing and a upper respiratory infection? He has no other problems - eats well, pees and poops a little too well (LOL). |
i think Oreo & Ginger have reverse sneezing, but i think they have a cold, but i can never be to sure... doctor does say not to worry, but as a mom, i am going to worry.. gosh! lol but i'd like to know the difference between experiences with reverse sneezing and URI. |
