I Want Firm Poop! I'm Serious! I want Firm Poop and I want it NOW! Chynna and Charlie Wont Firm up on Chicken Soup! Chynna is a Chinese Hairless Crested... She should and can eat the same diet as my Yorkies, they are all on Puppy. Charlie is a Ladrador Retriever, Who is now 6 1/2, so he is on an adult diet. I would like the three girls on the same food and Charlie has to have his own since he can't eat Puppy, he would be 300lbs is he did!!! lol Pixie and Paris have been on CS since day one and have semi firm to firm poops... I love the firm poops! If there is ever an accident in the house, I don't need a spoon to clean it up! Charlie has NEVER had a single accident in the house, thank God, it would be like HUGE! if he did! lol But 4 month old Chynna is NOT perfect in the potty dept... nor do I expect her to be at her age... but I would like the poop pate to go away! It sticks to every carpet fiber it touches!!! Its sooooo gross! And it can't be a good thing for either one of them all this mushy poo! ugh! So does anyone have any ideas??? |
The only thing I can recommend is trying another brand. There are several for all life stages. I found Bailey really likes Natural Choice. She got sick over Thanksgiving weekend and I have had a terrible time finding a food she will eat that doesn't make her throw up or have loose stools. I also have her on lactobacillus to put the good cultures back in her system since she can't tolerate yogart or cottage cheese. The pet stores should have samples for you to try. The stores here have loaded me up with several brand samples to try. When I gave Bailey Solid Gold, she tried to roll in it:confused: but wouldn't eat it...whatever is that about? Good Luck |
lol, she must have thought it smelled great and would attract a hot guy! All us gals know that the way to a guys heart is through his stomach! She must have been feeling spry that day! lol My girls would not TOUCH solid gold, if thats the one in the reflective bags, I bought the pink bag it was like a disco bag, very shiny and prisim like.... it was WAY TO potent a smell for them I think... I know it was way to potent a smell for me! The neighbors cat LOVED IT!!!! She still cries at my door! NEVER feed a cat you don't want! I never thought of doing the sample thing! I should try that... Pixie and Paris do good with the natural ballance rolls, I have never feed the dry though. hmmmm. |
Hi Kat, sorry to hear of your poopy woes. Try Canidae for all life stages.... it is a GREAT food and nice firm tootsie rolls. |
I really do hate to change foods on Pixie and Paris cause they are just fine on their food.... But Charlie and Chynna are not doing well on theirs... And Chynna and the girls do need to be on the same food since I free feed. And the girls will eat whatever she is eating out of sheer jealousy... thus the nature of a Yorkie! At least my two! lol And Chynna will eat whatever you give her... lol so they should all be pretty easy to convert... Pixie will be my tuff customer.. lol |

Is good ya?? I have not read a top 10 list in a while... Have had my head burried in the sand building a web site... he he he:rolleyes: |
Have they both been checked for parasites recently?? Also they both have moved into your home only recently, maybe it could be stress from change in environment or change in food from what they were previously eating?? Just some thoughts... |

Yes, solid gold is in the disco pink bag :p , The stuff smells horrible, like cat food, no wonder the neighbor's cat wanted more :D I didn't know about samples either but when I asked about their return policy if she didn't like it, they told me to ask for samples so I wouldn't waste my time returning food. Works for me... I tried Canidae and Bailey liked the Lamb & Rice but didn't like the other flavors I tried. |
Yes, they both went to the vet their first week home. My guy did the new patient visits for 45 and included all the bloodwork and fecal in that for me... he and I are pretty close... He knew Charlie from 4 years ago and was thrilled to see him! |

What she really meant was... If this chick is going to be "returning" whole bags of food that we can't resale... we may as well be giving her samples untill she makes up her mind! Cause she's costing us money! lol Cause I NEVER get offered the sample first! Its always after I have returned something, and I'm about to buy another brand... its.... OH! I have a sample of that! Why don't you try it first! (so you don't ruin a bag of that!) Thats how I am.... I hate buying something and eating the cost if its not what I want. I think sample packs or sample sizes are the perfect thing!!! I Love the option of even buying a sample size! I don't even mind paying for a sample... as long as I'm not buying a whole big deal of something that might not work. But Free samples make me very happy too!!!! |
I just got a bag of Artemis and my 2 love it! I'm in the middle of the transition stage from Chicken Soup to Artemis; so I'm not 100% sure of the firmness of the poop. But at least it would be something to try. If you want me to send you a little baggie of it let me know. |
I feed all of my dogs, no matter the age, Eagle Pack Holistic Chicken & Rice Adult & Puppy Formula. I have never once had a problem with "non-firm" poo here. Might want to either give them a call for a sample or heck, let me know and I'll send you some to try if you'd like. Eagle Pack doesn't have a smell, isn't oily, can't find a thing wrong with it really. All the dogs just love the stuff. It's great because more of it is digested and there's actually LESS poo with this stuff than with most of the dog food out there these days. Here's Eagle Pack's website. They also have a product that is designed to help with food transitions. Here's a link to that. Holistic Transitions Or heck...you may just need this one....Holistic Solution - designed to eliminate loose stool & upset stomach. |
Kat, I recommend Life's Abundance. I am not sure if you have considered it or not? |
I recommend Wellness. My dogs love it & it gives them firm poop.:) Good luck! |
I mix Natural Balance, Ultra and Royal canin tiny puppy, and nothing but hard poops unless Gracie ate something she should not. I also find that a bit of yogurt every day also keeps her regular and prevents diarrhea. |
I have my girls on a mix of (all Puppy) Solid Gold, Wellness, and Castor & Pollux supermix. Plus they get Missing Link and yogurt every day. Nice firm tootsie rolls here too:D! I hope you can figure it out, nothing worse than soft smelly poo, ewwww! |
:eyetearss :eyetearss :eyetearss Quote:
I hope you find a food solution that works for all of your kiddos. |
are you feeding soft food or hard food? I know soft canned food will give the stools a soft type. |
I feed mine Royal Canine and the only time they have had soft poops is when they have been sick |
i had my puppy on innova evo. his poop was so firm i could have tossed it across the room without it falling apart on me! haha. i've since moved him onto natural balance. poop still firm on both of them! |
Every once in a while for no apparent reason, Tink gets soft stools ick. The thing that works best is to give a teaspoon of pumpkin in the morning for 3 or 4 days. Stools firm up and you don't have to change their food. My daddy taught me that one. Course, if the stools don't form up, then you've got a bigger problem and will have to fuss with diet. But I'd try the pumpkin first. Canned - just keep it in the fridge. |

I can just picture you tossing poop across the room! ROTF LMAO! Too Funny! I'm on tears here!!!! I have never given any wet food here! Not at all! i'm not a fan... I keep two cans in the cabnet for the unforseen emergency that I may need it, but I have yet to use it. Its all teeth cleaning kibble here! I really want to promote good healthy gums with my guys.. and all that chewing is the way to do it! It keeps the teeth stable in their sockets and keeps tarter down which keeps the gums from receeding and prevents bone loss! :D Boy thats a mouth full! But Back to the FIRM POOP! I'm going to check out all this food! Charlie is down to about 5 days of food left... so now would be a good time to make a decision huh??? lol I could just pick up a tiny bag of his CS and start moxing it with whatever I decide on... And the girls have a TON of food left! The don't eat much... |
Ok... I decided to try Canidae. Everyone in the house Sucked it up! I am using the eagle pack transition supplement to hopefully make a smooth transition! ;) I'll let you all know how it goes! I really wanted to try Eagal pack too, but nobody had it local :( |
Yeppers, we want the low down on the Poop Scoop. I'm glad you decided to give the Canidae a try. It IS a GREAT product. |
What I have found is the better the quality of food, they harder the stool! When mine were eating Brightlife, there's were hard little tootsie rolls. Now they won't eat that brand so we are trying to find a new one. |
I don't know if you want to change foods , but Eukanuba makes stools like Tootsie rolls. Good luck, Pam |
Kat, what about Merrick? |
I feed Max Hill's W/D prescription diet food. I leave a bowl of the dry food out all the time and I do feed him 1/6 of a can of the canned stuff morning and evening. He loves both the wet and the dry and since I started him on it, he's had very firm stools. He was started on this food after he had a bout of pancreatitis and the vet said he needed to lose some weight, so it's a lower fat type of food I guess. Having firmer and dryer stools helps with expressing the anal gland too, which makes me very happy to not have to worry much about that issue now. I have to buy the food from the vet, but it really isn't any more costly than what I had been feeding him before and he's lost weight and hasn't had anymore issues with any illness. They make several different formulas, depending on what your dog really needs; Max needed the low fat one so that's what he got, but I'm sure they make a regular formula also, since I know your small dogs don't need to lose weight! All I can say is when it's too cold for Max to run outside, I'm really happy he's on this food, LOL. |
I didnt know hills made diet food. They also make a high calorie food for if you have a dog that is a smalll eater or sick. That is P/D and My Jewels has been on it when she was little |
