allergies and skin problems
 
I am hoping to be able to help my sister and her little Sasha get some problems cleared up. I see so much experience and knowledge here that I know this is the place to get it if it is to be gotten. :)

Sasha (7 pound Yorkie) has a lot of allergies and skin problems. My sister says she has to bathe her more than she should because Sasha's coat gets very oily looking so fast. I was wondering if you all think the Missing Link would help her with these things.

You have to back up and start new all over again. Vitamins are not going to solve an allergy problem. I would take her off of dog food (since I'm sure that's what she's been eating) and put her on cooked ground beef meat and rice. Add one cod liver oil gel cap and a teaspoon of Healthy powder. Feed her twice a day. Next, bathe her in an all natural castile liquid soap. It's the purest you can get. No snacks unless it's carrots and she can have those between breakfast and dinner. Nothing with wheat in it and no dairy either. Just the ground beef and rice. Wait to see how she does in a week to two weeks. I'll bet she clears up. If she does, let me know and I'll let you know what to add next and for how long.

She is going to the vet a lot. Getting allergy shots and such. I just hoped that there would be someone here who recognised the symptoms. I really appreciate the earlier post from Yorkiedaze (Thank you!!). I am going to relay the info to see if my sister is willing to try it. I love her girl! She is the one that started me yearning and so I guess, in the end...she is the reason I now have my Sassy.:)

Vet. are always eager to give allergy shots.....and I would suggest an holistic Vet. Keep in mind that regular Vets. are not trained in neutrition. They also sell such things as Science diet (a bad dog food to say the least) for profit only. We have to take the lead where are fur-babies are concerned.

I agree with her advice.

Many times, it's 'easier' and less of a hassle to have the vet prescribe a med or shot.......(migtht cover the symptoms but not cure)

Sometimes the best solution is the advice she just gave you. Start from scratch (it might be allergies to what she is eating). Then, slowly introduce the missing link.

Most vets are not trained in nutrition.......

These were my thoughts exactly. I would like to hope that she will be able to stop the shots for the sake of her little Sasha. And the money she spends on all of that is tremendous. As a matter of fact, she advised me against getting a Yorkie because she thought I would have all that expense, too. You can see how well I listened when you see my avatar. :lol tears She also thought it wouldn't be good to get a four pound one. Again...see my avatar. I am deleriously happy with Sassy. We snuggle and cuddle, she loves to be brushed and is an absolute angel when getting her bath. My life has changed so much to the better for having her. I feel truly blessed. :2hearts2::aimeeyork

My two Yorkie boys both had different "allergy" problems. One had dry itchy skin with lesions (sp) and the other just scratched all the dang time. The one that scratched would get allergy shots and the other I had on medicated shampoo.

For reasons not related to the 'allergies", I stopped giving them dog canned food and I tried the best of them. It got to the point where the dogs wouldnt eat the canned foods I was trying to find for them to like was wasted and I wasted a lot of money. I now cook their food and guess what - no more "allergies" and no more wasted food or money. I solved a alot of problems once I started cooking for my boys and I love it and they love it.

That's tremendous! How do you cook for them...or better...what do you cook for them? I wouldn't mind being a Yorkie Chef. Goodness knows, I have been every other kind of chef. :p
