Hot boiled peanuts in the shell are like eating a small piece of Heaven. The best place to buy them is when you are out on a sight seeing journey on a two lane country road and just about the time you get a terrible case of the munchies, you find a small road-side stand where there is an open wood fire with a huge cast iron pot filled with bubbling salted hot peanuts! If you have your car windows rolled down you can smell the wood fire about a mile away. To answer your question, Teri, they DO NOT taste like dry roasted or fried or smoked peanuts, they taste like boiled peanuts. They have a very distinctive flavor that is beyond description..... Oh man alive -- you pop the hot peanut in your mouth savor the salty flavor of the shell and use your teeth to punch open the shell, roll the peanut around in your mouth and tease the nuts out with your tounge. Eating a boiled peanut the "right" way is very sensual. Can I say that? |
Erk! I hate them. My dad loved them. My brother uses them for pot shots at the grandkids LOL!! Now Pecan Pie - that's an amazing invention. Omega, you just can't get enough of that pie can you?!?:D Glad Sassy is doing better. Couldn't post when I first saw this, but wanted to say that Tink has a crying fit if she gets an alien on her butt. You'd think she was being chased by a monster or something. |
Love of boiled peanuts.....Maybe it's a southern thing. I think it's in my genes. We had an old man that went around town selling both boiled and roasted peanuts from a cart. There were rumors about him. One was that he was a millionaire and this was just the way he chose to live. The other was that he was FBI or CIA...can't remember which. I laugh. Everything Cindy said is true. Everytime I go home, if the season is right, first thing I look for is cold boiled peanuts. We also had a man that had a herd of goats that he drove (as in herding, not vehicular driving) all over Georgia. We all turned out to see this spectacle. Smelled to the high heavens, too...but there we all were to gawk at the goat man. Ya gotta remember this was in the fifties. A whole other era. As to Sassy....she is doing well except for the potty training. I have placed a pee pad at every placed she has chosen since she has been here. I clean it with resolve pet cleaner then put vinegar water over that. She still finds a vacant spot between them or a new place. I now have her eating at specific times only., twice a day....with dry available all the time. I hope this is good for her. We have an appointment with the vet tomorrow and I will be asking him lots of questions. I want to be the best mommy she could ever have. I had to go a lot of places today and so decided to try the purse. She didn't much care for it, but I will try again. I like to have her with me every place I can possibly get away with. |
YOU KNEW THE GOATMAN!!!!! He used to come through Rome once or twice a year!!!! WOW!!!! From what I understand, he was a multi-millionaire but just loved his free livestyle. |
For cleaning the carpet, you might try one of the cleaners made specially for taking urine smell out. She might be catching the scent throught he Resolve and the vinegar water. |
Tell me one. The resolve pet stain cleaner is supposed to do that. The vinegar thing, I think I got somewhere on her or during the time I spent on the computer researching Yorkies. Yep. The goat man. Wasn't he a sight? We lived in a small town (that is now a major seaport owned mostly by Japanese) and that was real entertainment in those days. :D |
I have one more question.....is there anything available for stinky breath for Sassy. Don't laugh....the other night I washed her hinney more than once because I was convinced that was where the odor was coming from but it isn't. It's her breath. Peeeee-yoooo. Any advice? |

LOL..poor little thing...she has a clean backside though :p You said you are taking her to the vets? Have him check her baby teeth, they can cause bad breath. I really have been craving cheesecake...I made reservations today to pick up my new puppy 2/9...I am very excited!:aimeeyork |
:D :D I just took a lemon cheesecake out of the oven. :D :D I pray for you a safe and pleasurable journey to get your baby. I need just one more. For Saaay, you understand. It has nothing to do with me loving the smell of sweet puppy breath. |
DUH!! For Sassy. I don't know what Saaay is. Must be my southern drawl trying to get out! HA! |

I love lemon cheesecake...with raspberries...yummm, I am drooling here. I love puppy smell too, I hope Bailey likes Angel...I am a bit worried that she will feel displaced :( |
I'll bet you they will just love each other. At first it might not be perfect but they are like kids. I think it will be fine. We just tend to worry too much. I know I do and there isn't much chance of that changing. But they are more adaptable than we give them credit for sometimes. When I was bringing Sassy home, I feared that she might be upset going away from her former family. But...she attached to me reallyfast and now she thinks I am wonderful and I feel the same way about her. :) |

How was that Lemon cheesecake? ;) I went and had to have cheesecake ice cream today because of you...(that was the most convienent thing to eat) My hubby is taking his level 2 ski instuctor test this week and doesn't want any sweets in the house...so the next best thing was cheescake ice cream it was ok..... |
Actually, the cheesecake is great. But I have to give most of it away so I won't eat it all by myself. ;) I had a water pipe burst and didn't know it and my neighbor woke me up to tell me so she and her family will have cheesecake for dessert tomorrow night. Wish you were here. I would love to share with you. :p |

Is your house ok? Any damage? It has been so cold here I am kind of surprised we haven't had any problems yet...other then my hubby slipping on the ice last night and falling down the stairs outside...he is ok, just bruised his knee a bit..Thank goodness! |
Yes, it was outside. Gushing everywhere. I heard the noise but it didn't sound like water. It was my sprinkler system and I thought someone must be crazy to be out working in this cold. The plumber said it would cost 200 to fix it but I was very relieved that it only cost half that. Better watch that bruised knee. I 'bruised' mine once and it wctually ended up that I had torn the cartiledge and had to have knee surgery. |
His knee should be ok, he went in last week to have cortisone shots in them so they wouldn't be so sore this week for his ski test...oh well he'll just grit his teeth and go for it.. Thank goodness the water was all outside, what a mess to clean up if inside. Well gotta go to bed...Goodnight |

here's what I have done so far Okay...I went to the grocers and the pet store. At the pet store I got some Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul...Adult formula, which the vet said she should no start eating (adult). At the grocers I got cottage cheese and vanilla yogurt. I gave her about a tablespoon of the cottage cheese and she loved it. Ate it all. Then I put down some of the dogfood. One bite and done. Now I am cooking her some beef and rice. I am not sure how you are supposed to do it for dogs. I put in only beef and rice. No seasoning at all. I almost stir fried the beef in olive oil but thought better of it until I know olive oil would be okay. So I used none. Anyway, it is almost done and I am going to try that to see if she will eat it. They told me she was four pounds but she hadn't been weighed in a while. Today at the vet's she weighed 3.8 so I am on a fattening , weight gaining intent right now. I feel so bad that she might have lost eight ounces just being with me for four or five days.:( I don't know that is true but if it is I deserve to be beaten. AAArrrggghhh!!!! Any suggestions I am all ears (or eyes, as it may be. Thanks, Sammi |
My next question....how in the world am I going to follow the directions of the vet if she will not eat the dried food???!!! Oh, Lordy, what to do??? |
Somebody's Mama's Pecan Pie Recipe Somebody's Mama's Pecan Pie Recipe: Make your own crust or buy one. I buy. It's way easier. I am not 'suzie' enough to want to make my own pie crust when something just as good or better is available at the market. Anyway...Do NOT pierce the bottom of the crust for the pecan pie. Here's what's next: 1/2 cup butter, melted 1 cup sugar 1 cup light corn syrup 4 eggs, beaten 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 1/4 teaspoon salt 1 unbaked 9 inch pastry shell pecan halves Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In a saucepan, combine butter, sugar and corn syrup. Cook over low heat stirring constantly until sugar is dissolved. Cool. Add eggs, vanilla extract and salt; blend well. Pour filling into pastry shell. Arrange pacan halves in concentric circles on top. Bake for 50 to 55 minutes. Cool completely. Refrigerate. Enjoy. :) Should you decide you want a pastry recipe, let me know. Have it to you in a jiffy! Sammi |
BTW..... I have been in Food and Beverage most of my life. Have owned restaurants. Am willing to share some fabulous recipes if anyone wants them. Like Cajun food. Yummy. Shrimp Creole is delicious. Have a recipe for seafood enchiladas that is divine. Many more. |
