Is my puppy eating enough?? Hi Everyone! Banks is a little over 18 weeks now (and is a BIG boy at 6 pounds already!!) and I'm trying to put him on an eating schedule until he's through potty training (so that his...err...'movements' are more predictable). I give him his food and he gets approx. 20-30 min. to eat. He doesn't always seem that interested and he often doesnt eat that much. Also the breeder had him on natural balance ultra premium dog food for all ages...should I try to phase in a puppy food? I'm very much at a loss...it's funny because I read sooo many books on dogs and yorkies that I thought I was prepared, but reading and living are two WAAAAAAY different things. Any help on what you fed your pup, how much he eats and phasing in a puppy food would be fantastic!! |
when i was training my puppy, i let him eat as much as he wants at set time periods of the day. if he stops for more than 5 minutes, then the bowl is taken away. maybe that'll work for you? otherwise, just check the label on the bag of food. |
hmmm... what about puppy food? should I try to phase in puppy food? I do give him food for about a half hour...he'll eat and then gets interested in something else. I suppose he's not going to starve himself though... what about once he's house trained? Do you let your yorkie free feed? |
I wanted to use Natural Balance because it was an all life stage food -- suitable for my puppies as well as my adult dogs. But they did not seem to go for it so I have switched. Canidae is another all life stage food fine for puppies and adults alike. I do free feed mine dry kibble and then they get a bit of canned food as well. They are eating Chicken Soup for the Puppy Lover's Soul right now. I will probably try them on Canidae again if I can find a local source for it. |

Now that they're both house trained, I leave kibbles out all the time but they really only eat 2x a day. once in the morning after our morning walk. and once at night after our evening walk. |
oh, btw, sometimes i make the kibbles damp and they'll gobble it up like mad! |
You Have To Love The Teapots..... |

There's also another meat roll you can get at Petsmart called "DeliFresh". also very good food. They're in the fridge section of Petsmart. Just a little pricier than Natural Balance meat rolls. both worth a try! |

My furkids absolutely LOVE them.............we use them as treats only though because they enjoy their kibble. |
