How much...? 4 Attachment(s) Good evening Yorkie lovers... I have a question that I hope someone here can help me with... I just bought a 2 year old pomeranian from a family that was moving and couldn't take their baby with them.. I noticed when brushing her that she has dandruff.. What can I use (naturally) to make it go away..? I was also wondering how much should a Pom weigh?.. Micha weighs in at 10lbs. She's a beautiful black pom. I just want the best for her and will do anything to keep her healthy... She's been on Pedigree dry dog food, since she was a pup.. So I went out and bought that food for her.. When she was younger, she was kicked in the face by a cow and it knocked her canine (fang tooth on the left side) back down into her jaw.. The vet couldn't pull it back out so it's not as tall as her other tooth.. It doesn't stop her from eating though.. She's a good eater.. Her pictures is below... |

First....Congratulations on your new furbaby! I have heard that shampoo with tea tree oil in it is supposed to be good for dandruff.... And.....Pedigree isn't a very good quality food...I am sure if you look at the ingredients you will notice there is corn in it...dogs can have allergies to corn...If it were me...I would change her to a better quality food...something made with human grade products..I use Cadidae for my girls...they love it and haven't had any problems. Maybe it's her food that is causing the dry skin/dandruff. |
that is one black beauty! I dont have much advise but she is very pretty |

She is stunning...........congrats! I would definitely take her off the pedigree.........it's a very low quality food. Some premium foods are Canidae, Innova, Chicken Soup, Solid Gold, etc I feed mine Life's Abundance........and I am quite pleased with it. Good luck |
I agree that she is probably allergic to something in her dog food....dogs tend to be allergic to corn, wheat, soy, and beef, all or most of which are probably in the food you are feeding her. I would first try switching her food to something off THIS LIST. If switching her food doesn't get rid of the dandruff (give the food 2 months to work), then there are a variety of things you can try. I would add some Omega fatty acids to her diet. You can do that through Missing Link Supplement or Grizzly Salmon Oil. You can also try switching her shampoo to an oatmeal-based shampoo. I would also start using a conditioner. GOOD LUCK and CoNgRaTuLaTiOnS on the new family member! She definately is a beauty. :) |
I used to have a Pom and he had trouble with dry skin too even on good food. I used an oatmeal based shampoo and that helped alot. Poms tend to have dry coats, so a conditioner helps also. Can't remember which one I used on him though. Make sure you brush him lots 'cause when stressed, Poms shed like crazy! He is very pretty. I hope you enjoy him lots and lots. |
Thank You for all the advice!! I will see if I can get The Missing Link from our small PetValu store.. or see if they can get it in... I just bathed her this morning and used a conditioner and her hair feels so much softer and she looks fluffier... I do brush her every 2nd day... She hates it.. I am very gentle with her though.. Again thank you!! hugs Riddick and Micha's Mommy!!:aimeeyork |
