Heating Pads Rosie loves warm things. We had the heating pad on the other day and she went and laid on it. We had the heating pad turned off today and she laid on it. When she realized it was turned off, she started pawing at it so we would turn it on. Are heating pads safe ok if they are on the lowest setting? Note that it has a cloth over it and she goes off of it when she gets too hot. |
Mine have never used a heating pad, but I might consider letting them if I am supervising them. I wouldn't feel comfortable letting them be on it when I'm not around. I think I'm actually going to be getting the microwavable pads to keep them warm at night. |
I use rice socks. Mens large tube socks filled with regular rice in the microwave for 1-2 min. They hold heat for quiet awhile. Makes a nice moist heat neck hotpack too. You can keep one in the freezer for an ice pack. |
Layla uses a heating disk at night.. even if it isn't warm she likes the comfort of it... at night when she sees me put it in the microwave she gets all excited and can't wait to get in her crate and cuddle up! |
There is a dog bed on ebay that heats up like a warming pad that I have considered getting for mine |
I bought this for Jewelina http://www.puplife.com/dogsupplies/snug.html and Jaden sleeps with his warming puppy. Its smaller and just has the rice pouch that you heat up and stick in it; I got his at petsmart for really cheap, like 8 bucks. Also, when its colder here I put warm soft water bottles (like the kind you use for injuries) in pillow cases and put them in their beds so it's nice and warm when they want to lay down during the day. |
Those are great ideas. So I guess I won't turn on the heating pad for her. She also loves the heater. She will lay by it for hours and paws at it when it is turned off. The only problem with the heater is that it uses too much energy. |
I, too, can vouch for the heating disk. I got mine at petsmart. Chloe loves curling up with it, and we keep it a little cool in our house at night and use lots of blankets. Since I got this disk, I'm not worried that she's too cold at night. She's a cord chewer...a heating pad would never work. |
I got a heating/cooling pad from Pet Edge - it works great we are travelling somewhere. I also have a heating/cooling pad that we bought at Target (by the back pain/support stuff) - it is filled w/ some sort of sandy/ash stuff and it can be thrown in the ice chest on hot summer days OR heated to retain heat on cold nights. |
