I just think it is so sad that the need to have a tiny dog is making someone do this |
What an absolutely heinous and cruel thing your sister is doing  Continuing on the path she is on, she will have a dead puppy on her hands in no time. It makes me so sad that someone would choose to own a puppy simply as an accessory instead of treating it as the wonderful living creature that it is. Clearly she cannot actually care for the puppy if she is slowly starving it to death. That is absolute abuse. I have a 14lb yorkie, a 7lb yorkie, a 5.5 yorkie and a 4lb yorkie. All of mine are fed the same amount of food and type. Starving her dog WILL NOT keep it small, it will kill it. :thumbdown |
I think you could answer your own question. Do you think doing the same thing to a human child would affect his health? OF COURSE!!! Why would a dog or ANY living thing not be any different  Sorry, but this is very ill to read and simply your sister has no heart. :( My boy is small framed and although he eats all he wants (free kibble-high quality).........he gets a little belly but his frame is still tiny. You cannot beat GENETICS! |

No offense, but I REALLY hope this is a troll post and not a true story. With that being said.... Everyone is correct in saying that this is abuse. And of course this pup is not active, he's too weak!!! He needs food!!! Would she underfeed her baby to keep him smaller and stunt his growth from malnutrition? I really hope not!! I have to stop now b/c I'm getting too annoyed. But, if this is true, I really hope you intervene...heck, take the dog away and keep him for yourself!!! Better yet, give us her email so we can talk some sense into her. |

Sorry, but someone really should take that baby from her! d |
GOD PLEASE let this just be a sh#t stirrer:mad: If this is for real, then she needs the cr@p beat out of her for doing this to an innocent animal:( Does she starve herself too, to stay "small"? I can't be nice, sorry guys! |
Bryana - I already posted but this bothered me alot - we have so many truly sick puppies here and to read this just makes me so sad for all the dogs in our culture ...Size is NOT king - Health is. when you said this : "He is a little guy and he has been losing weight instead of gaining weight & He is clearly constantly hungry, but he shows no health problems." I think you know the answer to your original question and that dog needs your help. Morally it's wrong to do this to any animal - but she's doing physical damage to him if he's losing weight .....why is the vet not telling her this ?? Maybe you can call her vet and let them talk to her ?? I would - I'd do anything to change that kind of thinking - it's sick. She may not know better but she's really obsessing about size WAY too much - it seems everyone is these days... and that's so sad for a gorgeous ALREADY small breed. |
Bryana, welcome to YT. You're asking good questions, but, I think you already knew the answers. You know what's right just by your experience. Have a good New Year. |
I can't believe this to be true I would never think that people would do this to a puppy.:( It's not just this young lady, there are others I'm sure. Imagine the young girls who won't eat to stay skinny, it's the same way people will do a pet. |

Your sister sounds very immature. She doesn't even have enough responsibility to own a pet if she is more worried about herself, and that is all she is worried about is the vanity of having a "purse dog". Maybe she doesn't understand how she is jepordizing the health of her puppy. Let her read all these replies and maybe she will understand that this not acceptable. |
This is animal cruelty and you are obligated by law to report it. You should feed the dog if she will not. You can't stand by and do nothing. |
I belong on Mytoos (Cockatoo forum) and we get a lot of trolls on there too trying to stir things up. I was thinking early on that this is what this may be. Atleast I hope it is. It would be a damn shame to think that someone would deliberatly starve their dog just to keep them small. Then again, Tia came to us malnurished and was advertised as a "Designer Purse Puppy." Seems like as of late so many are buying these dogs as accessories. Disgusting. Anyway, I surely hope that this isn't really happening to this poor pup. Elaine. |

He should be on free feed, meaning food down all the time. This is abuse and could cause death if he goes hypoglycemic. It would probably be considered cruelty and I hope someone who knows about it steals the dog from her and hope she never gets another one. Not proper feeding can cause malnourishment health problems, ricketts, kidney/liver failure and other permanent health problems. I hope she does not keep the puppy and never gets another one. |
 I think if you had any love in your heart for this pup you would stand up for this little dog and tell your sister that she is wrong, if that dont work than just take him home with you, I hope you or your sister do the right thing for him.:aimeeyork |
Hopefully, this is a troll post but if not I say what's wrong with her vet??? Do they not weigh the puppy at each visit and notice something is not right? This pup is not long for this world if someone doesn't intervene ASAP. Very sad. |
I've been following this thread... it's nuts - I agree with everyone else. I just want to grab people like this and SHAKE SOME SENSE INTO THEM. I keep checking back to see if the original poster has returned... doesn't look like it though... maybe she's not coming back |

Anyone who would basically starve a puppy like this, is not dealing wtih a full deck! I would tell your sister that what she is doing is ABUSE and that if she does not feed the pup properly, you are going to take action. This little puppy is helpless, and needs you to step in!!!!!! |
why? why? why? so may questions why? why do people get these pups and not take care of them? peopled are getting them cause they are cute and tiny and oh look she can wear clothes, i mean wth, i had a lady ask me if i ould breed my yorkie with her chi, so she can have a yorkie, and being that i go to church with this girl i should have been nice but i blew my lid, thats not a yorkie its a mix and thats so dam retarded, and she just looked at me and i told her you dont breed just to have a dog, i just lost it and im at the point now to, does she know what health probs she can be causing that pup? she is slowly killing it, im done im just cant sit here and think about his poor pup looking for food, its so sad |
this just turns my stomach |
My gosh I feel sorry for you. It is your sister. But think about the dog...... |

thanks everyone for the replies. i have spoken to her about it and she is increasing the amount of food she is feeding it by a little, although she is still regulating it. and to clear up, the vet has not picked up on it because she has switched her vet a couple times. also, i think she has misinterpreted what one of the vets has told her. she asked him how she can try to keep him small and he told her that it would depend on what he ate (he most likely talking about weight not size). also, she credits his lack of energy to puppies needing a lot of sleep. |
hmmm...i posted a reply yesterday but it looks like it didnt post. anyways, i spoke with my sister about it and she is increasing the amount that she's feeding him, although she is still regulating it. also, the vet has not caught on to it because she has had to switch vets. i think she got the idea to do this because she asked the vet how she could keep him small and he said it depended on what she fed him (presumably talking about his weight NOT the size). also, she has some friends with yorkies who are very picky eaters so they naturally do not eat that much so she figured that her little boy could go with not a lot of food either. thanks everyone again for the replies and i'm working on her to increase the food little by little. also, doesn't the amount of food puppies require increase until they're a year old? and does anyone know of any diseases or specific problems that can happen so that it can scare her? |

Liver/kidney shut down General body function shut down leading to irreversible shut down leading to death. Yes a puppy needs more as they mature and age. A Yorkie pup should always have a good quality kibble down all the time and the owner has to be sure it is eating not just the food sitting there. Some can be finicky, they can also die if they are not eating. Ask your Vet, talk to your sisters new Vet and give the clinic a heads up. A puppy should never be losing weight. |
You need to set your sister down and tak to her. What she is doing is so wromg, That poor puppy, You should never underfeed a puppy. If you cant make her understand then she needs to be turned in for abuse. |
