Whats the best shampoo & conditioner to use for a yorkie? Everytime i give Baby a bath he seems to be dirty....i scrub his paws and still it does not work.....?

I get a shampoo especially for dogs at PetCo....I know some people on here had shampoos recommended to them by their vet I think, but as far as I know, baby shampoos or a dog shampoo should be adequate.

Dog shampoo that has oatmeal in it is spouse to be the best. It will not make them itch so much and is good for there coat.

I use "Coat Handlers" shampoo and conditioner on Toto and her hair is just like silk! That's what the breeder recommended and she never scratches or anything. She only scratched one time and the vet found that she was allergic to the dye in our new carpet. After she got over that ... she hasn't scratched anymore. The Coat Handlers makes the light colors in her coat really bright and the black shines. She seems to tangle less too ... when she goes to the groomer she always tangles bad afterwards so I always wind up bathing her again a couple of days later!! ;)

Yes, Bettyanne mentioned Coat Handlers when I first joined YT and had written it down to purchase when I use what I have now which is Pet Silk. Also good too.

Just for info sake. My Schnauzer has a very sensitive coat. Schnauzers do, it's a trait in them to get pimple like stuff down their back. Then the groomer "pops" the pimples when groomed. Anyway, their coat dries out a lot like a Yorkies does. I have been told that a teaspoon (this is for the size of a 20 pound dog though) of extra virgin olive oil in their kibble once a day helps a lot. We had started this over a year ago and noticed a big change in Annabelle's coat.

Anyway, I think if ever needed I would try maybe a 1/4 of a teaspoon of the olive oil in Schatzie's kibble (she is 5 pounds). The taste is great for Annabelle so I am sure Schatzie might love it too.

But back to the bathing. I have to bath Schatzie once a week. However I think she needs it at least twice a week. She always looks stringy and greasy even though she is brushed out daily. Even using the puppy wipes it doesnt help. She looks clean after a bath for max 3 days then oh my gosh, she is gross looking. Doesn't smell bad, just a stringy mess.

I gave my 6 week old babies their frist bath last night it was kinda fun i used baby shampoo on them poor little thing were scared to death lol they were to cute i might do it everynight cuz they FINALLY slept all night long lol

This shampoo is great Chester does not have any matts since we started using it . It remove all the dirt from his paws and we only have to brush him once a week now because it really conditions. When we first used it on him I was like wowo.. oh my gosh... this is amazing . It leave him smelling great.
I don't mean to sound like a tv comercial but i really like this product.

Now they don't sell it at the stores in toronto anymore so we will have to order it online now.

My two have such different coats. Maddie has a silky coat and Rudy is a cotton coat. His gets so tangled so bad. I was using Tropiclean Papaya plus and it did great on Rudy, but made Maddie look greasy after a couple of days. I would use a spray on conditioner Tuff Stuff. I had heard good thing about Chris Christensen products. I ordered them about a month ago and it seem to be doing good for both. Both of mine have long coats. Maddie is a breeze to take care of. Rudy takes alot more care. They are going Thurs to get a quick trim and I am thinking of cutting Rudy's hair. He is all boy and doesn't like to be brushed. There are alot of good shampoo out there. Trying to get the right shampoo depends on the type of coat Baby has. It's kind of a hit miss thing. Good luck.................Cindy

I use bio-groom products on Mojo. I just love it...the protein shampoo, the silk conditioner, and the mink oil spray work wonders. For the daily brushing, i use the anti-stat spray dilutted in water with just a bit of mink oil, it leaves the coat extra shiny and no "fly away" hair. I would really recommed this line..

how can i make baby's coat shinny...where can i find mink oil?

I was told my my beeder if you want ther coat to be shiny you add vitamine e to the water once a week.

I have not done that for a year now. Chesters coat is very shiny.

You can go to www.biogroom.com and look for all the distributors website, they will have the complete line, including mink oil.

Also, I know that it is very good to give suplements of omega 3 and omega 6. It helps the growth and strenght of the coat.

Smelly, greasey fur with dandruff
 

Help! I have a seven year old Yorkie that has never had skin problems in the past. Since last summer, he has been unable to go more than 3-4 days before needing a bath because he smells so bad! I took him to the vet who thought he might have an infection in his skin/oil glands. Chester was put on antibiotics for two weeks and was bathed every few days with the shampoo the vet gave us (a coal-tar medicated shampoo). This all helped for a few weeks, but then we were back to where we started. I have noticed that he is very itchy ( I give him 1/2 a Benadryl several times a day, which helps), he
appears to have dandruff especially on his lower back, and his fur gets really smelly and greasy feeling in just a few days of not bathing. Also, the skin on his belly area appears red, dry and irritated. He has only eaten Eukanuba his whole life, although I just changed his diet to "Science Diet for Dogs with Sensitive Skin". Chester does not eat "people food". I have noticed the smell is a little better....he's been on the new food for almost a week. I read somewhere that if their food has too much fat/oil it can cause this? I am still bathing with the medicated coal-tar shampoo that the vet said would absolutely NOT dry out his skin, even with bathing every few days.
Has anyone ever heard of a condition like this?
