Help! Smelly Dog! HI everyone I am new to this forum. I have a 9 week old puppy, 10 weeks on Monday, who honestly stinks! He weighs about 2.5 pounds and my vet told me not to bathe him. He said to take a wet cloth and pass it over him. I tried that and nothing! I was also told to try baby wipes and still nothing! Could someone please recommend something! My vet said not to bathe him till he is 6 months and not to take him to a groomer till then as well. Do you guys think this seems accurate. Also maybe I can get some info on his size, his mom is 6 pounds and his dad is 5, but if I do the equation of tripling his weight at 9 weeks then he will be 9 pounds! I don't understand! Please help! |
Bathe him! Just keep him very warm and dry him immediately with the blowdryer. Keep the room warm where you bathe him. :) |
I say, by all means, BATHE HIM! I never heard of such a thing...wait until he's 6 mos old! Wow! :D |
I would bathe him. I turn the heat up and close the bathroom door for a bit, so that when we go in it is nice and warm in there for his bath. If you don't want to bathe him there are product on the market that are waterless bathes. |
please bathe him-- I read somthing that said dog's know when they smell bad and it affects the way they feel about themselves. I bathe Bella once every two weeks and if she's outside a lot once a week. Just make sure it's warm when your baby gets out of the tub. A good trick is to put a towel in the dryer and wrap him in it when he's wet. I do that with Bella and she seems to enjoy it better than the blow dryer. She's goes to sleep in the warm towell! |
You can give him a bath . Gazou is 13 weeks old and already have had one . |
Poor baby. Bathe the little guy. When I got Josie she was 13 weeks and she had pooped and thrown up on herself from the airplane ride. I immediately gave her a bath. Get a little tub fill it with warm water and use a tearless baby shampoo. Talk to him in a soft voice the whole time. Have a warm towel from the dryer in a plastic bag so as it stays warm and he will be just fine. Keep him in the towel all warm and secure till he seems okay maybe 15-20 minutes, then gently warm blow dry. He'll probably be a little scared but, he'll eventually get used to it. Good Luck! :) |
I would also say bath him and clean his ears. When I first brought Cordelia home she smelled pretty bad. Well, she had a yeast infection in her ears which was causing her to stink. Like what every one else said just turn up the heat and make sure you have warm towels on hand to dry her off with. I don't use the hair dryer on Cordelia because it scares her too much. So I just wrap her up like a baby with a towel until she is dry. |
I've never heard of any vet saying something like this. I wonder if your vet is aware that puppies often get a bath before they go to new homes. It is perfectly safe to give your pup a bath. |
Ramsey is 10 weeks (today) and I took him to PetsMart yesterday for a puppy bath. It was only 9.99. :D |
Toby is about 5 1/2 months old and he has been bathed about ten times since we got him at 9 weeks. He also stunk really bad. Toby is also going to the groomer's tonight for his first haircut. I am not sure why your vet said that. :aimeeyork |
Good Luck to TOBY!!!! I know he'll look fabulous! |
Oh man. Stewie is 6 months. i cannot imagine if I just gave him his first bath. He's had about 20 baths by now. His breeder bathed him a few times before I even brought him home. |
I think your vet should go without a bath that long and see how he/she likes it! NASTY! In my opinion the only time needed to NOT bath is the first week your furbaby is adopted, that way he/she can acclamate him/herself to it's new surroundings. |
I got yelled at...... Quote:
