oh SO stressed out *anal glands* ok so back to the vet we went today for Layla's anal glands... now the last resort is a high fibre food (which i'm pretty sure will just make her stool softer.. but whatever.. i'll give it a try) as of right now we are giving her a bit of bran flakes (as per suggestion on here!! thanks!!) but does anyone know a high fibre high quality food?? and when that dones't work (which i'm sure it won't) it's removal time... my vet seemed VERY knowledgable about the process how it is very time consuming thus many vets don't do it properly. he knew that he has to be extreamly careful not to cut surrounding muscle.. but all of this means she has to be under for a while.. which really stresses me out.. SO has anyone had their dogs anal glands removed?? PLEASE let me know how it went.. i'm so upset over this. |
I am not sure about high fibre food making stool soft. When I feed Siu Pao veggie, it seem to make his stool hard instead of soft. I presume veggies has fibre? |
ya most veggies are i think.. i give layla carrots here and there because they are high in fibre... i'm not sure.. so confused  |
I think so long we don't overfeed the veggie, it makes their stool harder and when we overfeed, that is when their stool become all soft. I swear a little veggie really does make Siu Pao's stool harder and when I feed him all kibble, his stool is softer. |
Hi , we had similar problem with our little one , but I feed her couple table spoon of kellogs bran buds with very little milk ( just to make it moist) and she loves it in the morning for breakfast. give it a try worked for us ........ |
I would not encourage to have surgery done for annal glands , too much complication in this area, best to treat it naturally , surhery shuold be your last resort.Try dry foods , pure bran buds, little cheese. |
ooo ontario.. which part?? i went to Sault STe Marie (where i am orginally from) and we have a friend there that is a vet so i got a second opinion.. he said not to get it done.. so we've been adding a lot of fibre to her diet and voila! no more problems!! woo hoo!! |
Canned pumpkin (plain) works very well for firming poop. How much does your little one weigh? I gave my 7lb Chi mix half a teaspoon or less and it was perfect. Be very careful not to give too much cause it will stop them up--works that good! Good luck. :) |
