What do I feed Molli now? I have a 5 month old Yorkie who is very picky. She was being fed Science Diet puppy small bites dry food when I got her. After I took her home, she wouldn't really eat it, so I was mixing the dry food with Science diet can food. She ate that for a while, then she got tired of it. She started eating my sister's yorkie's food which is Eukanuba and so I bought that for her. She ate that for a while, and then wouldn't eat it anymore so I bought packs of Old Roy food and put the gravy on it. Now she doesn't want that. Will she eventually eat it if that's all she has available to her? I want her to like what she is eating though. What should I try next? Kelly |
Bil-Jac. Puppies seem to *love it*. If you go to BilJac.com and fill out the survey, you might get lucky and get a 1 lb sample in the mail. |
When mine have been picky I have given them Royal Canine puppy 33, they will eat this when nother else will do. I would not feed them this for too long, because it does have a very hight fat content. |
My puppy was like that too. The breeder fed him science diet dry food for puppies, but he didn't like that after 2 weeks of being at my house, he was hypoglycemic so the vet gave me prescription diet, and he stopped eating that after a couple of weeks. He stopped eating completely after that so I had to do something, so I boiled chicken and made some rice for him and that REALLY got his appetite back up. He was like new. That's a good place to start if you don't mind cooking for your pup. We even tried Eukanuba can, Natural Choice can, and baby food which worked for awhile. Eventually he started eating science diet canned food, and he ate that for about 6 months until we found out that he has a liver problem. Now he HAS to eat Royal Canin Hepatic dry food because other foods could be deadly to him. And guess what?? He actually loves his RC Hepatic. Your pup will eventually stick with one food, don't worry. Does he prefer dry or canned food right now? |
I've also heard picky puppies can't resist Bil-Jac.... :) |
I took the bil-jac challenge where they give you a free sample box and $5 for the smallest bag. Peanut refused to eat it, like everything else (eukanuba, canned, dry she wouldn't eat it) Now she has just started eating dry food Royal Cannin 33, but the wet has to be in a seperate dish next to it. |
Sounds like you had my Maggie at your house too. She was exactly like your baby. I turned into her Short Order Cook. I knew there was a better way about this. Our other dogs are Austrailian Cattle Dogs and they eat Pro Plan. So, I put Maggie on Purnia Small Breed Puppy Pro Plan. I soften it just a tiny bit with water and add 1/4 container of Ceasar Puppy food. She has been gobbling this down every meal now for 2 weeks. She is my little rollie pollie baby. |
...my comet is also finicky. I started out with Science Diet for puppies. He stopped eating it. My breeder fed him Science Diet , so we continued with it for as long as Comet would eat it. He now eats Innova EVO which he loved in the beginning. He still likes it but I've realized that he needs interesting varieties in his meals. Now, I mix the Innova EVO with Wellness can food and he is addicted! I I mix the dry kibble now with a different variety of canned Wellness like, the sweet potato and Lamb, and other flavors every few days, and he eats all of his meals now. The dry kibble is very important for yorkies to maintain in their diet and adding a little variety each day makes it fun for them. Just like humans our finicky yorkies need variety! |
Picky Eater Once a day (usually at dinner) I mix either some tuna (packed in water) or cooked, chopped chicken (I buy this precooked at the grocery) into his kibble. He loves the fresh stuff. I'ld get tired of dry kibble all the time too! |
