oh we need help! i don't know what else to do! layla's poops are not firm enough and thus her anal glands fill up... she is back to scooting again... does ANYONE know of anything i can give her to make her poops more firm?? we have cut down the amt of wet food she gets in the mornign with her Missing Link to less than a tsp... i feel so frusterated... we are going away shortly and i won't be able to get to my vet if she needs them emptied.. and i'd be so upset if i knew she was uncomfortable.. any suggestions? i think we are headed back to the vet! |
Cut out the missing link and see if that makes a difference. |
oh i NEVER thought of that... you think it might bother her tummy?? what good thinking.. thanks so much.. we'll give that a shot... was hoping for a more immediate change.. but we'll take whatever we can get! |
why don't you learn to express the anal glads yourself? it may be "gross" but sometimes it needs to be done and they can't do it themselves |
the vet says that's next! i'm nervous that i'll hurt her.. but it's better than her being uncomfortbale.. should be intersting tomorrow... we go at 4:15 |
It could be her dry food. I've noticed with Jaden the higher quality food he gets the firmer his poops are. I noticed a huge differnce when I switched him over from what the breeder had him on (Purina) to Nutro for sensitive stomaches. If cutting out the missing link doesn't work and empytying the anal glands doesn't work maybe you should consider switching her food to a different brand? |
we are on the best brand we can get  i also had that problem when layla was on Purina... that's what the breeder fed her.. and all was well... i think i'll have to try cutting out her wet food in the morning.. which she waits for.. but i'll try phasing it out... the vet had her on metamucil.. but that just made it worse.. which i figured since it is for constipation.. not our problem! |
Find a quality dry food your yorkie likes. Take them off canned all together. Give them a treat food occasionally. |
1 Attachment(s) hi i cook chicken mince and rice..my dogs love it.and it help make poo firm.. |
ya.. her food is completly natural.. very high quality.. blue buffalo. not many have heard of it... and we are going to start phasing out the can food which she LOVES... she will be sad :( |
Fiber helps make firmer stools. Same with people -- you know that Bran cereal - the one that is the little round things. -- There is one that is "honey-flavored." If you hand feed your dog a few of those every day - 10 or 12 (maybe even a few more) - it should really add a lot more fiber to their diet (regardless of what else they're eating) and should help make firmer stools. And, my dogs like these. They think they are treats. They could even be mixed in their wet food -- but my dog's like being handfed once in a while. Worth a try! Good luck! Carol Jean |
