what's good dog food I'm wanting to get a feel for what kind of food I should get when I get my Yorkie. :cake4: (okay, not cake....really)[lol] We feed our lab pedigree food, but from what I gather, it's best to get high quality food, and that pedigree is not good a good choice for Yorkies. What should I stay away from, and what are the good things to look for. I did a search and someone said to get something without corn. I don't need a specific brand, just some ingredients that are good, and what to stay away from. |
Royal Canine is relly good. It made my tuckers hair silkier and shinier and more managable. |
After much research and study, I have been feeding Wysong products. I've tried many brands, Ruby is somewhat picky. This has been the only brand (Nurture w/pheasant variety) she will consistently eat and it is absolutely the best brand overall, IMO. |
I use royal canine too... I have tried many different kinds of "high end" food and the not so "high end", this is the one they eat the best.. I have decided that I have to just feed what they will eat. Mine are sooo picky! From what I hear, most yorkies are picky eaters... goodluck! d |
merricks dog food is good too.... lexi gets that.... |
Any food on THIS LIST is super premium quality with no corn or wheat products. You cannot possibly go wrong with any of these foods. They are all EXCELLENT!   Personally, I would not feed any food that was NOT on this list. |
i've been feeding harley nutro max and he is eating it fine. after doing more research i realize that its not that great of a dog food and he is a little itchy so i have ordered some of the innova food. can't wait to try it out! |

You are so very welcome! Glad you found it helpful! :D :D :D |
We feed Merricks here as well. We used to feed royal canin last year until I discovered there were much better options. However not one food works for all dogs. You may have to try a few different kinds first before you find the one that best suits your dog. |
Okay, so can I ask a dumb question......where could I find them, and about how much does one of these bags of food cost? |
Check out this website. They carry all the major brands and you can look over each one. Their prices are competitive. www.petfooddirect.com |

Check out www.petfooddirect. Also go to each individual brand website and some brands you can order straight from their website and other brands they will give you a list of places in your state where you can buy their product. If you get a 4 or 5lbs bag, it will cost you around $10 and it will last you for months. Since our guys are so small, you can afford to buy higher quality food without breaking the bank. |
Thanks guys....petfooddirect.com seems like a good site. both of you sent me there lol. what about oatmeal.....to me that seems like the lines of corn and wheat--??and some of them also have oils. is this a good thing?? Which one of these foods look good to you?? I know there's a lot of 'em. Is it better when they have lots of ingredient or just a few?? (Like California Narural..it has a few) (link protein-fat) http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/d...1&brand%5Fid=3 26-16 http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/p...5Fid=704&Page= 28-14 http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/p...5Fid=389&Page= 23-13 http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/p...5Fid=618&Page= 26-14 This one has the most protein!! http://www.petfooddirect.com/store/p...5Fid=966&Page= 32-21 am i doing this right:icon5: --protein=good/fat=bad Thanks--you guys are so much help!!!
