5th day after med and I still see egg worms? I started a thread on Siu Pao's condition a few days ago. Here is the thread:- http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=59871 Vet prescribed Drontal Plus and he took it 5 days ago. I came to find out that it is the best de-wormer. This morning, I still see worm eggs in his stool and poop still mucus like. Why are the worms so persistent? Is this normal? Sometimes he poop like usual, about 2-3 times a day, sometimes he poop 4-5 times a day. I have been cleaning up his poop and the yucky eggs as best as I could. Can the worms be so persistent? How come there are so many eggs still of there are no more worms? I will bring a stool sample for a faecal test tomorrow but the worm eggs are very visible. They look exactly like the eggs you see in the link here under roundworms http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/worms.html Meanwhile, what else can I do? |
:( I don't have answers to your 'wormy' ;) questions; but just want to offer sumpathy and support. Poor li'l guy! |

Thank you. Those pesky worms are really something and I don't even dare to bring him out now for fear he'd get more! Arghhh!!! |
Anyone else have experience with worms? How many days does it take to clear? |
Sorry your little one (and you) have to deal with this! I don't know that what you are seeing is eggs. I think the eggs can only be seen with a microscope (those on the web site you posted are from microscopic views). Have you seen actual worms recently? The whole worm thing grosses me out. Keep us posted and I hope you baby has a clean exam very soon! Julie and Tucker :aimeeyork |
I think it is depending on what type of worm eggs. I am not really an expert in worms but I know now that for roundworms, you can see the eggs in the stool and also some segments for tapeworms. As for whipworm and hookworm, they can only be seen under the microscope. I have seen 1 dead roundworm when I poke through his stool few days ago(not with my fingers of course, with a Q-tip). Its white about 1-2 inch and pointed on the ends. As for eggs, I see some white dots which are smaller and some white ones that look like sesame seeds. Its gross. If you go to the link I attach below and look at the roundworm picture, the eggs in the stool are the small white dots I see in his poop. http://www.thepetcenter.com/exa/worms.html The thing is, I have been using Advantage Multi 10 which supposed to be prevention for roundworms as well but it is applied in between his shoulder blades. Apparently, in this case it is not good enough. He poop 3 times this morning and it still contain white dot eggs (no more sesame type) and the poop is small quantity and mucus like. I know I have been so worried about it because although he is not my first dog, its my first time dealing with worms and they do scare me!!! |
Sometimes they need to be wormed more than once to get all the worms out of their system. It is perfectally normal for them to still have worms only after 5 days. It takes awhile to get through their system and if they have alot of worms they will more than likely need to be dewormed more than once. You have to wait though, you can't deworm them again right away but by the second dose they should all be gone. Drontal is a good dewormer, my vet uses the same thing. I once had a cat that I rescued that had alot of worms. She was even throwing up worms. It took about 3 doses which was split up over 3 months to get all the worms and eggs out of her system. |
