When do babies poops get formed instead of ewey gooey? Tink is only 10 weeks. She's had two pretty well formed poops, but all the rest are pretty gooey. If she misses the piddle pad (most of the time) I have a mess to clean up. Will they ever get firm and stay that way? |
when i brought layla home.. she was not eating high quality food... purina puppy... i switched her to Iams.. not knowing it was also crappy food... however.. higher up on the scale than purina... so as the quality of her food improved (we are now eating holistic) the poops have gotten harder... which is ever so important for their anal glads (we have first hand experience there!) i'd suggest.. once your pup settles in to start slowing changing her food.. unless of course she came on a high quality. if that is the case.. i cna't help out.. it may have just been a fluke that laylas poop changed with her food. |
My experience has been the same. Since I put Gracie on the Ultra brand (I mix wet with dry), her poops have been like little tootsie roll migets! |
lol.. great analogy! that is EXCATLY it!! i have been giving layla apples (well one small piece that she sucks on.. too cute) and i found it made her poop soft again... it's all trial and error... let us know how it goes.. or what food you are feeing her... |
Hmmm. Well, she's eating Royal Canine Puppy. I had to put my senior poodle on it too 'cause he kept eating hers and I couldn't tell if she got any!? I think it's good food, my vet said it was fine. Should I switch her to something else. She was eating Purina when I got her and I switched her to the same brand as my poodle 'cause he does so well on it. |

well... i know Royal Canine is a good food... it's not the highest quality you can go.. but you definitly made an improvement from the Purina! how long has she been on it?? basically if you want to feed her the BEST food.. you need one with no bi-products... something "holistic" (i was turned off it at first because of the holistic part... but it just means all natural.. no fillers) go here http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_f...iews/index.php it is an AMAZING sight that gives the pros and cons to each food.. helps you sort them all out... layla's food is a 5 star.. and it is high quality.. but you can even get better stuff out there! hope this helps. |
Thanks for the site - I'll check it out. Thanks all of you for your input. Layla is so cute!!! Do you trim her yourself or take her somewhere? Tink got her first trim all-over (except her top knot) last night. She did pretty well and then pooped all over me when I carried her to her crate - I almost lost it. LOL |
aww thanks. layla goes to PetSmart once a month to a GREAT groomer there... in between i just trim around her eyes and her behind! we are trying to grow out those darn "bangs" but i'm thinking of trimming her myself.. let me know what you decide to do and how it goes! |
Loose stools We have had breeders switch to Life's Abundance and eliminate the loose stool problem when switching from mother's milk to solid food. High quality food makes a difference. |
I feed Nutro Natural Ultra and the puppies that I breed have formed stools right away (usually about 4 weeks when I see them because at this point I introduce food and Mom stops cleaning up after them) and never are gooey at all (even after vaccinations). It could be the food you are feeding, but it could also be a symptom of a parasite. |
At ten weeks and gooey pooo , I think of worms ...Has this been ruled out? |
Yep, worms are ruled out. She got a clean bill of health from the vet last Wednesday. He said it might be from trying to get used to a new home. I've had her almost 3 wks now. But I think talking about it on this site spooked the ewey gooeys. This morning they were goey but tonight when I came home from work, she pood and it was pretty well formed. I actually picked it up with a tissue and it left no residue on the carpet. Yippee!!! Maybe this is a portent of good things to come. She peed on the piddle pad all by herself today too!! Life is getting better.:D |
Well it sounds like things are getting better and that you are a great Mom for her. Congratulations on your new girl. It is a bit stressful for new puppies , it just takes so little to upset their systems. Have a Happy Holiday !! |
