I'm so glad I found this sight!!! Our 12 week old, Bandit, went for a haircut and nail trim on Saturday. The groomer said he was fine and very playful. When I picked him up he was very hyper and didn't want me to hold him. By the time we got home he was walking "sideways" and his eyes were "wild" and "glazed over". His mouth was hanging open and he wouldn't let anyone hold him. I put him in his bed and after sleeping for a couple of hours he seemed a little better. By yesterday he was his old crazy, lovable self. Has this happened to anyone else? Was he just so traumatized by the grooming or could he have had a seizure or something?

OMG!! A reaction to a grooming product or whatever??! All I can say is that I am SO glad that he is ok now - you must have been horrified..!! They can react to various products in a bad way... how is he now...!! Ana xxx

I hadn't even thought of a reaction to a product!!! I'm used to my big goofy Lab, he is like a truck and nothing bothers him! Bandit is fine, like nothing ever happened, but he scared 5 years off of my life.

did you take him to the vet to make sure it wasnt anything serious???? low blood sugar can often happen with little ones, you could give them nutrical for that.... and also check livershunt (dont be scared, im just throwing out ideas)

I don't want to sound suspicious either, but did the groomer come highly recommended because I have heard horror stories about them drugging the dogs to make them easier to groom. I have been advised to stay with your dog when he is being groomed. Better yet, go to a groomer that does it out of her home where you can stay. Yorkies are the most "stolen" dog of all the breeds. I use a mobile groomer that comes to my house becuase I have so may dogs and a cat.

It could have been an allergic reaction too but your description if his behavior sounded like he may have been drugged.

It could have been because of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). When my yorkie was 12 weeks old that happened to him a couple of times. He would be fine and then all of a sudden he'd start walking sideways, walking into walls, glazed over look in the eyes. I wouldn't recommend putting him to bed because when that happens, you need to get his sugar up. Give him nutri-stat or nutri-cal...if he won't eat it, rub it on his gums. When a pup has hypoglycemia they could seizures (like what happened to bandit or worse) or end up in a coma if you don't act. It's easier to prevent a hypoglycemic attack than to treat it. Trust me, I've been through so much with my yorkie. Feed him small meals many times a day so that his blood sugar stays constant. My yorkie baby almost died on me once when that happened, and it's terrifying. Just out of curiosity, have you taken him to the vet to get a regular check and a fecal exam?

Oohhhh... the poor baby!

Nutri-cal is the way to go. I actually carry it with me when I take Mojito out and give it to him 2-3 times/day between meals and he LOVES it!

As for the groomer, be very careful. Ask around and make sure the person is reputable. I've heard stories about the dogs being crated and ignored and god only knows what else...

On a separate note, does Bandit have all his shots? If not, you might want to hold off on taking him to the groomer again until he's done with his vaccinations. Bandit is a clean dog but you don't know anything about other dogs have been to the groomer.

You are all so wonderful! I do trust this groomer, we've used her for years. We've been to the vet, I took him the day after i got him and he was pronounced healthy! I hadn't thought of the low blood sugar, good idea. I have the Nurtacal and I'll keep it in mind if it happens again. Thank you again for the help, I can see this will be one of my favorite web sites! By the way, he's his old crazy self, but I scheduled an appointment with my vet tonight, just to be safe.

I have a shih-tzu mix that has seizures she 9 years old she has them about every 6 months she eats the natural balance for allergies the vet said that should help her with them and she hasnt had one in about 6 months hope she doesnt have anymore heres a pic of her

thanks everyone for your wonderful help. Bandit saw the vet last night. He seems fine. The low blood sugar was also one of his suggestions. He had some blood work, waiting for results. We put him on Natural Balance because he wasn't eating the Eucanuba. We just stand there and watch him eat because he's never inhaled his food the way he did yesterday and today! He has perked up and running around like his old self.

I am so sorry to have to tell everyone, but Bandit died last night. I've posted his story in the memorium section. Thank you all for your advice and help. He had liver failure, and never had a chance. I'm just so sad. I on't ever get another dog, this just hurts way too much.

Oh my god Terri... I AM SO SO SO SORRY... i was reading this post from the begining and was taken back by the shock of your email... i can't help but tear up here at work. :( I am so sorry... i know the pain too well myself...(Honey - that's where the user name comes from) it's never easy to let go...Please know that your baby is in doggy heaven now and is feeling no more pain. I will say a prayer for you tonight... may god bless you always.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and not sure how to get around this forum or for that matter any forum. But I have to try something, maybe someone will read this.
I have a 12 week old yorkie, I brought him home on Monday and he refuses to eat. On Tuesday I took him to the vet for a wellness check but he was very week, when I was in a room waiting for vet I took him out of his carrier and he wouldn't move. He was having a hypoglycemic attack, his sugar level was at 20. They brought him back with Karo/water. The vet told me I would have to feed him every 2 hours, so I am having to force feed him because he refuses everything that I have tried. He will not eat the food the breeders gave me, so I have tried Royal Canin puppy, Eukenuba puppy, recovery rs (what the vet gave me) ground beef with scrambled egg, chicken liver (he ate that only once) baby food (chicken and beef). He will not eat anything on his own, so I have to keep forcefeeding him. Please, if there is anyone who has any suggestions, PLEASE, let me know.

You can also introduce yourself in "General Discussion" or "Yorkie Pictures".

Although not good quality, have you tried Cesars canned food?
It sounds like you are running out of options and your pup may need to go to the vet for an IV.

Yes, I have tried the ceaser's. I feel like I'm running out of options and patience, but I don't want to lose this little guy.

If he hates eating that much, I'd look into liver issues (like liver shunt).
What is your vet saying? They won't give him nutrients through IV?
It may be the only way right now.

Get some Vanilla Children's Pedisure and force some down with a syringe.

Have you tried Cottage Cheese? You can get some of the fine egg noodle and cut them up really good and mix with a little Cottage Cheese. Even sprinkle some shredded chedder cheese ontop to entice.

How about some mashed potatoes? Even add some melted cheese and some chicken?

If you can not get him to eat, you need him back to the Vet as he may have a Liver Issues (like Ellie May said)
