Extreme shedding? 1 Attachment(s) My mom adopted a friend's suposed "Yorkie" several months ago. The lady was sort of weird in a holistic way (TO ME anyways). Let's just say the dog had black sink on his nose and ears, neither of which had anyfur... the previous owner was putting somekind of tree oil on him via a mister bottle? I looked up the condition, found out it was 'leather ear' and my mom treated him with cortaid once per day, after several weeks the hair is growing back! Yeah. He was previously on a junky dogfood. I guided her to the 'Nutro' dog food and his flakey skin has gone away. yes again! Now the next problem we are working on is the EXTREME shedding. For one thing, his hair is REALLY wirey and he is constantly shedding. The previous owner stated he was a paper full blood yorkie. I thought that yorkies really dont shed like that though. And he has a rather long muzzle, and his hair is nothing like any yorkie i've seen before. Any advise or thoughts? Thanks |
Did the other lady brush him on a regular basis? That could why he is shedding. |
Suposedly the previous owner did brush him, my mom is trying to daily as well. But what happened to ''yorkies don't really shed?'' |
He looks kinda like an Australian terrier http://australianterrier.org/gallery.html |
The Yorkie coat does not shed, and does not have an undercoat. The correct texture is straight and silky. Yorkie coat is similar to human hair. It is possible for a yorkie to shed if ill, but this would not be a permanent condition. |
hmmmmmmmm do you have any more pictures? he could be red leg and have allergies and hair loss from them. |
It could also be a sign of a thyroid problem. Have your vet check his thyroid levels next time you're in. |
He really look like my first Yorkie named Maļa . She was shedding very much no matter the products I used . |
Pictures I'll try and get some pictures in the next day or so. Thanks for everyone leaving feedback. I'm just so bewildered at the constant shedding, hair texture and the nose lenght. Thanks and i'll get back to pics soon. |
He looks full Yorkie to me. It might be that you just haven't given enough time for the proper nutrition to turn this problem around. I would add Missing Link to his diet though or another source of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. The first condition you were describing with hair loss could have been demodectic mange which must be overcome by their immune system. Sounds like he will be a lot healthier from here on out, keep up the good work and I am sure all these problems are going to disappear with proper nutrition and care. |
