Need to switch dog foods Gracie constantly is scratching. I am going to try to switch her to a dog food w/o corn and see if that helps. She is on Iams now. I need a good quality dog food that I can get online. I live in the boonies and there is no Petsmart, Petco, etc within 80 miles of here. Thanks in advance for your recommendations. |
Baby food I feed my baby Yorkie and my senior Toy Poodle Royal Canine. It's a little expensive, :2omg: but I've had very good luck with it. My poodle used to have skin allergies on Science Diet and on Purina and he was always throwing up. Now, no problems either way. I recommend it highly. |
Can you order it online? |
I've never ordered from this website, but it's the first one that came up. I feed Loki Canidae. It's affordable and it has no by-products or corn. He likes it. http://www.waggintails.com/store/Sea...string=canidae |
I give Minnie Innova and get it at a feed store. |
I have been feeding Nutro lamb and rice for several months and Brandy has been pretty itchy. Also I think both of my yorkies coats don't look as shiny as they should. I switched to Royal Canin two weeks ago and she has gotten worse. Today I am off to find California Natural and give it a try. I've been doing a lot of research and apparently there is no best one since different dogs are sensitive to different foods so whatever you decide to try just get a pretty small bag of it to start in case you need to move on to another one after a few weeks. I've read the most common problems are corn, wheat and soy. Some dogs can't deal with beef....the list goes on and on. I think you can order most anything online. |
Actually, after reading the above posts and going to the Canidae website and reading the ingredients and all the testimonials I think I would like to try this one. Anyone know where I can find it? I tried the website store locator and it just comes up with an error. I checked all the major chain stores web sites and no luck. I would rather just go and buy it rather than ordering in online. |
I feed innova and innova evo |
Royal Canin has corn gluten meal in it. If you want to read the ingredients of any dog food, I always use petfooddirect.com The ingredients are listed at the bottom of the page of any dog food you select. For the time being, I am feeding Kacee Natural Balance and she loves it. |

I just started another thread about my yorkie scratching and wondering if it may be the food she's eating... |
I use Natural Balance, organic. There is nothing in it except human grade food. No corn, wheat, soy, artifical flavors, etc. Buddy does well on it. It is put out by Dick Van Patten. There is a website for him. Hope your little one does better on another food. Carol & Buddy:aimeeyork I had a dog in the past that was allergic to everything and anything. I use only natural foods this time around. It is awful to see them scratch themselves. |
Any food off THIS LIST is an EXCELLENT food that is free of corn and wheat products. You can order any of these foods online, too. I personally would not feed anything that was not on this list. |
Like everyone has mentioned corn is the most likely allergen, but also look for one with no wheat, soy or yeast with Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids added. The allergy could also be to the meat protein so if the Iams formula you are feeding is chicken, switch to a lamb protein based product to cover all your bases or if you've been feeding lamb, switch to chicken. |

Yeast is definitely an ingredient that could cause allergies and does in some. All are different, some can eat all of the common allergens and not be affected at all. |
