Please advise, new yorkie mom 1 Attachment(s) I need help. I adopt Momiji 11/22, I'm new mommy. I've been feeding her mix of can food and kibble which my breeder gave me as going home package. She is only 11 weeks old. I feel her poop is little hard and small amount. I am wonderling if I shoud soak kibble with water and make soft. She does eat kibble but rather eat can food. But I want her to start getting used to hard food. Am I pushing her too soon/early??? |
For now I would feed her like the breeder was. After she is acclimated then give her more kibbles and less canned food together untill eventually there is no canned food. It is always better when you switch what you are feeding them to do it gradually |
I agree with Chachi. When they are that little though, it is very important that they eat something, so as long as she is eating that is most important. |
is kibbles- kibbles and bits? |
No kibbles is any brand of hard food. kibbles and bits is a brand of hard food |
is she getting enough water throughout the day? If she is not drinking her water, then that will cause her to have hard pooh. You may also try to give her a few hard kibble out of your hand to get her use to eating it without the soft food. Welcome to YT! Your little one is just a doll baby! |
I would feed her the same that she was eating during this transition period. In a week, I would begin mixing some of the kibble that she was eating with a little of the new kibble you want to change her to. Each day after you begin the change, I would add one or two more kibbles of the new with some of the old. Hope that makes sense! Enjoy your puppy. |
thanks for letting me know what kibbles are Iam learning so much here ;) |
hey I learned how to get the smileys ;) |
Thats great I love using the smilies;) |
Thank you all for the advise!!! O.K. I guess I'm rushing. I'll give her can food for now until she is more used to me and new environment. She doesn't drink water that much. But water is always available for her. Oh she is such a joy!!! She is worth more than I paid for, even though I think she was expensive to me.... (I worked 2 jobs in order to save money!!!) ;) Thank you all for the responses!!! |
Now diarriah.... I am feeding her can food for a day and now she is having diarriah..... Poor thing, she was dragging her butt on the wee wee pad this moring.... Should I worry???? I am thinking to mix can food and hard kibble again but less kibble.....:( |

Got it, poor my baby. She hasn't poop yet after the morning incident but she sure does have appetite!!! What my breeder told me was she fed can food 3 times a day and hard food available 24/7. I don't want to have food available 24/7 so I am mixing can and hard food. She is getting used to the new home very well!! Thanks for your advise. :) |
FYI you may want to rethink the 24/7 availability. Just leave a little rattan of kibble out in her pen. Still feed her on the schedule you have just leave the rattan out until she is out of the Hypoglacemia danger until she is at least 3 to 5 months old. :animal-pa |
