YIKES!! Ralph is getting bald spots. Ralph is 10 months old and is fix'd. He is chewing little bald spots on his leg and hindquarters. eczema, psoriasis,??? Can I use Benedryl?? I'm feeding him Iams. I keep his coat short. Is this common? |
I would talk to your vet. My Jewels has a skin problem and shes been put on antibiotics. Also they did a skin scrape to make sure it wasn't mites. You really may want to have that done also just to rule it out. Jewels wasn't chewing or scratching at all. Her hair isn't coming in as full as it should be and her follicles are clogged. It could be so many things even allergies. Best of luck. |
By the way in answer to your question you can give benedryl to a dog. I don't know how much again you might wanna talk to your vet because they may want to give an antibiotic or something. |
:aimeeyork When we got Gucci in Sept, I noticed a small bald spot on her back. I took her to the ver and it turned out to be ringworm. She lost a lot of hair on her back. She was on treatment for 5 months. Her hair has finally grow back. I agreed you should take him to the vet and get him test it. Good luck and keep us posted please. |
you may also want to switch his foods.. www.iamscruelty.com i know thats beyond the subject, you should try other high quality foods like - innova, canidae, royal canin etc. if he's itchy you might want to try missing link supplement.. or if its just scaly dry skin like psoriasis, try clotrimazole cream or triamcinalone. (i borrow some from my work lol) |

hi my vet told me to give coco childrens benadryl 1ml per pound for itching hope this helps! |
Jerr can you take a digital of the bald spot and post it? if its the size of a nickel, round and red it might be ringworm |
Bald Spot My Simba just recently had a blad spot and of course I looked on the internet to see if any fungal infections and I thought it was ringworm. The vet ran some tests and we found out that it was an adverse reaction to rabies vaccine. Not an allergy but just a reaction. We worry that it will happen again. His hair has grown back but hyperpigmented (dark color) and we have changed his food from BilJac to California Natural. You can give Benadryl to your Yorkie. I use up to 1 ml for Simba (10 lbs). If any smaller, I would stick to 0.25 cc to 0.75 cc using a syringe from the pharmacy. |
Hair Loss Our Kodi has lost a lot of hair on his hind quarters after he got skin mites (scabies) and was scratching and biting like crazy. The vet is giving him a series of shots that have really helped, but he said the hair loss is probably the result of a reaction to the shots and should grow back. |
Bald Spots Copper has developed some balding spots behind his ears and on his forhead. I took him to the vet today, and the Vet first thought it might be a bacterial infection, but when he looked in his ears, he found some mites. Copper is only 11 weeks old. We are treating him for mites, but watching closely to see if the balding gets worse. He goes in Wed. for more of his shots...we will check it out again then. Poor Copper...I hope his hair grows back. Anyone else out there had this problem? |
Oh, and I forgot...How do you keep the hair from irritating the eyes and making them water. I try to comb that area every day, but he has a lot of tearing. Do you have the hair trimmed around the eyes or train it to go down? |
Awe.. Poor ralph! Hey Jerrbud..If he's chewing the spots raw it might be due to his food. A lot of dog food brands contain ingredients like chicken by products or chemical aditives such as ETHOXYQUIN, BHA and BHT. Which are all harmful to dogs. All natural dog foods tend to help upset puppy dogs bc they don't contain these ingredients. Royal Canin and Natural Balance are my two favorite. I hope he feels better soon! :) |
