Ear Infection? I just went to clean Sammi's ears and her left ear had a little brownish gunk in it...It smelled too...The left ear looks a little red and dry as well...Is this an ear infection? Her ear had been red and a little swollen once b4 and my vet gave me some drops that smelled almost menthol like and some animax for the redness and swelling... Any advice or help would be great! Thanks! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/d70c5380.jpg |
1 Attachment(s) ...my comet was recently treated for an ear infection, with Tresaderm. He had the same brown gunky discharge that you describe. The problem for my yorkie was that he was scratching his ears alot, which caused the irritation. My comet has floppy ears so I try to check his ears frequently , due to the moisture build up because they are floppy. If this substance is unusual for your Sammi, you should call the vet, and have them make sure that the ears are not infected. Bacterial infections can spread fast in small yorkies. You should check it out asap. Please keep us posted! Cometsmom :animal-sm |
Tresaderm is for ear mites and other fungus...does he shake his head and scratch his ears? |
Stewie had an ear infection and experienced the same brown gunk/odor/reddish ears you are describing. I would definitely check it out w/ the vet. She prescribed some inexpensive ear drops for his ears and it cleared right up after a week or so. Good luck. |
1 Attachment(s) ...Comet's infection started out with the brown gunk, and then he began scatching and shaking his head. It turns out that the brown stuff was some type of fungal infection. The Tresaderm took care of it. :animal-sm |
I'm currently treating Mia for an ear infection. The vet told me that having discharge is normal but if it smells then it's an infection. I'm putting some drops morning and night time. It's very important that you treat your baby for this. If not treated, they can get really bad infections and permanently loose balance. In order to avoid getting infections, make sure that after you bathe him, to dry her ears inside with some cotton balls. Good luck! |
